    STRANGE STREET RUNS... post 'em

what do you guys have for strange street runs, wins/losses? like beating cars that you shouldn't have, i'll give you some of mine...

my car: 1995 intrepid 3.5L, mods: intake, 104octane
car i beat: 1992 305 Camaro Z-28 with flowmasters and Slamshift auto shiftkit (the shift kit helps it a lot)
details:ran 2 times from a stop both i had him by half a car, once from a roll where i had him from 85-115 by 2 cars at the end

my friends car: 1998 Saturn SC2 - 120hp, manual, mods: none
car he beat: 2002 Chevy Cav Z-24 150hp, AUTO, mods: air filter
details: ran 4 times, Saturn won 3/4 by 1/2 - 3/4 of a car each time 'cept for the loss, he lost by half a car. This puzzled me so much that i went online and looked up the Saturns gears, it redlines at 6500 and pulls hard at the end of each gear, no wonder he won

Yeah, my brother was driving Eileene before it was finished and outfitted for the street.
    Meet Eileene-

Still running straight out of the tuned headers. No mufflers at all, and the thing looked and sounded AMAZING!!
We were cruising from the Sonic car show out to the race track along route 66. We were just hoping that that we were not going to be stopped by the police. I was following Paul in another car as was astonished that a ricer came up beside him and looked like he wanted to give it a try.
Oh, you have GOT to be kidding me. That car would clock at the quarter before you could hit the 1/8th. "Don't even attempt to waste my gas, rice boy!"

Hey, why is my picture not coming up?

My car: 1983 Mercury Lynx mods-are you kidding?
    Vs.: 1972? Porsche-stock

Raced from a 40 mph roll, was ahead by a fender at 70. Before you call BS on this, the Porsche sounded like it had one of those little VW bug engines.... It was a funny and LONG race.

    My car: 1977 T-Bird 351 Windsor-stock
    Vs. 1981? Turbo T/A-stock

Started from a 5 mph roll, was dead even until 60 then I pulled a 1/2 car at 90.

Friends car: 1986 Buick Century Grand Sport Grand National (yes that is what it said on it's registration)
    Vs. 1987? Corvette

Took 1 1/2 lengths immediately. Corvette lost traction, gave up at 60 or 70. This little Buick had the GN motor transversly mounted minus turbo, even though it had the "turbo 6" insignias on the seats etc..... Quick to 50 then really slowed down. It was an ULTRA rare car, and cannot find any pics or stats on this car. My friends Dad worked for the Buick dealer and got one. That car always had people asking "what the %&*# kind of car is that?"

In my friends stage III (the normal JWT chip, pop charger, and exhaust) 93 300zx, with me in the car, he has beaten a brand new M3, a DB7, a mustang with 417 lb-ft(that was by far the most impressive opponent) and he just annhilated an S2000. I want a 300 TT. Those seem weird to me, but then again, if you know the 300 TTs, its really not that weird.

my car: my 97' maxima. high 14sec car and i was cruising along. supra pulls up next to me @ about 60mph and wasnt even giving me the time of day. he looks over (race initiated through gestures) and upto about 90mph i had 1 1/2 cars on him.. at first i though it was an N/A, so we went again and all i could hear is a huge turbo sucking harder than a fat man that ran a marathon

3rd time, he pulls next to me again, and is laughing hysterically.... i shake my head, and smile and give him a thumbs up and gesture for him to move along and show me what the car could REALLY do... well at about 70mph he had pulled over 5 cars on my already... bastard

just recently i was i was going along in my GSR, and a v6 camaro pulls next to me. i thought i was in 2nd and hit it. I was actually in 4th, and lost by a couple cars, (didnt even bother to downshift after that.) we pull up and his friends are all laughing and pointing, and making remarks about my (stock looking ) GSR being a ricer car.. well this time i found the right gear, and let him think he was winning again. when he got a car ahead of me, i hit it and pulled about 6b cars on him by 80. i should have slowed down to see his face

not really strange, but both stories are decieving

    Fun topic.

I had a 91 Suzuki Swift GT back in college, 5 speed, 100hp from 1.3 liter 4 cylinder. Probably a mid 16 second car. Got into a race with an old man in a 91ish yellow Cadillac Deville, and couldn't separate from him. Also ran a then current fullsize Chevy Yukon (2 door), and was dead even with that. Disappointing on my end...

My 88 MR2 5 speed (stock) was also a dead match for my roommates Chevy Corsica 3.1 v-6 automatic in a straightline. Humiliating...

Fun to look back at stuff like that, though.

    me: 1994 3000GT SL - 222hp DOHC 3.0V6
him: same camaro i mentioned in the original post (92 Z-28, slamshift kit, flowmaster)

my 3000 is sooo much faster but stupid me i didnt' know we were racing and he got a jump and somehow i just could not catch up, that was the first time we ever raced and i think it was a result of my very ****ty (at the time) shifting, that plus the fact that he had a slamshift kit basically sucked for me. at the beginning he pulled 1.5-2 cars and just held that up until 60 from the 5mph roll late start i got.

don't worry, i reckoned him many a times later with my 3000 AND intrepid after that prior experience.

another funny race for me was against a Diamante that had a turbo on it. the story...

so i'm heading to make a car payment on 95-S near pawtucket and i'm in the passing lane (3 lane freeway). All of a sudden in the slow lane i see some guy in a stock looking Diamante that was dark green with tinted windows, the only other thing i saw was an exhaust tip that was just nice looking, not ricerish or anything. I didn't think too much of it as i looked over and didn't recieve a look back. I got into the middle lane and gassed it a little to see if he wanted to play and all of a sudden BAM!!! he WOTS it and i can hear the whistle, clear as day. My intrepid was by no means a dog in the top end, it was ****ing fast from a roll so i stomped on it too and he just put buslength upon buslength on me, we started from 65-70ish and by 95 he had 4-5+ cars on me and just never stopped.

...scared the **** outta me, haha

Me in my 92 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 HO with a 5 spd and still stock wheels and tires, with my brother riding shotgun...
Guido in late 80's mustang GT complete with Cheese Grater Tail lights and big hair girlfriend.

Sitting at a light on Park Avenue in Madison NJ about to Cross Colombia TNPK in Hanover TWP NJ (Guido Capitol of Morris County)...
Him loads of Gel in his hair and bright orange Guinea Tee...
    Us laughing at him.
He throughs a couple revs at us...
    We continue laughing...
Light goes green and we both hammer down...thank's to the torque, posi rear and gearing gods I jumped out to a quick lead...chirped them in second and hit third...still about a 1/2 a car. Fate should have it that traffic stopped the run at about 60...just before the aerodynamic Gods stepped in.
Needless to say We were really laughing at this point...
    He was not...
I figured he was stock except for the Big Mustang Windshield sticker (got to be 10whp right there), the chain link liscence plate (another 5 whp) and the little Italian Flag emblem (let's not get crazy, that is purely looks)
He must have been mortified, crushed by a couple kids in a jeep with a steal your face on the back...
His man hood and italien pepper probably never recovered
    Fun times.

This should go under street racing gone wrong.

Me: 1971 Nova 2 door, 350 4 barrel Edelbrock 600 cfm, saginaw rock crusher 4 speed, 3.73 posi, frame snubbed, etc. etc.

    Vs. 1990's Z34 Lumina

I was driving 50 in a 45 on a 2 lane road with no traffic and a Lumina was riding my bumper, and darted over for a pass. I left my car in 4th up a steep hill and I still shut him down. He attempts this again and again with no luck. On his last attempt I dropped to 2nd and went from 45 to 130 in a hurry leaving him by about 10 bus lengths. We came to a stop sign where he finally caught up, and I hear him yelling "learn how to $%#!ing drive!" The guy gets out of his car and proceeds to punch the rear quarter panel of my car, so he got dropped. When I got to work I was able to punch the dent he left out from inside my trunk. I never saw the guy again.

My brother had one similar. Not a race though.
He was at a stop light in his 71 chevelle. A ricer guy threw a cigarette out of his window and it landed on my brothers hood and new paint. My brother got out of his car, grabbed the cigarette and put the cigarette out on the guys windshield. Looking at the size of my brother, he decided to appologize for it landing on his hood rather than hit the quarter pannel, or start a fight.

    Me: 2002 WRX (Stock)
Guy with slightly more money: Ferrari 360 Spider

This guy pulled up next to me at a red light, and when it turned green, I accelerated normally (not wanting to embarass myself against a f***ing Ferrari). He ran even with me and started yelling over at me to race him and that he wanted to see what I had. I gunned it, and I backed off at 80, with him as a yellow dot just a little bit ahead of me, maybe half a mile or so. It was a vast improvement over the Civics and Mirages that usually try me though.

    Me: 1971 Nova-modded
Co-worker:1972 Chevelle-$3500 blue printer engine, stall......the thing sounded like a dragster at idle.

I had beat this guy badly a year prior to him putting $5k+ into his car. We started from a stop with the Chevelle driver thinking he would pace with me at first. I had a great launch and pulled 1/2 a car. He then knew he had to give it everything he had. By 90 he was in the lead by a car and a half. I thought for sure I would beat him. What made my day was what he said after the race. "You did alot better than that Viper I raced yesterday." He was running low 11's in the quarter, while my car was a high 12 low 13 car depending on tire setup.

Ha...I'll had my .02 to a semi pointless thread.

My dad's friend finaly let me take out his Shelby KR 500 (it's a 68 or 9 fastback) that he just got done working on the year before. I did intake, carb, tranny, rear with 3.73's, subframes..blah blah blah. Anyway I'm out driving and we come up to a light. I look over and we both see this viper. The owner of the shelby says "get it straigt and then open her up". I leave from the light almost like a bat out of hell (i was 17 driving a 50-60,000 dollar car) and open her up. I fly by the viper and look in my mirror just in time to see him turn left, where I just took a right out of.

DOES ANYONE GET IT? I was turning left he was turning right onto the road I was leaving...HAHAHAHAHA. The guy sold the car for 50,000 a few weeks ago

    Another one...

I was driving a guys new F-150 Blown HD which he has gone 13.2 in the pass before me at the track. I hop in the first time ever dragging. Lined up next to a newer Stock ford ranger. I was told not to leave the line hard...so being me I nailed it and spun tires like no one business. At around the 1/8 I look over and see that I'm right beside this ranger I nail it fly by him and at around 100 I had to lift because the car was feeling real lose again...it was enough to fend him off. When I got back to the pits he said "Let us never speak of the time where the ranger was actual beside my truck...in a race. It never happened and we are just going to leave it at that"
