At idle I think the WRX sounds like a quiet VW bug, or a lawn mower with a large muffler. At higher rpm's it still sounds like a smaller displacement to me. My 71 Nova that had a 350 with a twin turbo exhaust sounded nothing like a WRX. Older v8's just rumble. Floor it at a light and shake the car next to you....A neat sounding car is a Taurus SHO at 7k rpm, it sounded like an exotic. The WRX really doesn't sound too special when stock even with the silencer removed. The turbo spool sound is cool though. I wish Subaru would have created more of a rumble or better exhaust note for the WRX. Even Mustang GT's and Contour SVT's have a nice exhaust note stock along with many other cars.

    LS1s aren't 347. They're technically 345.69c.i. (i.e. 346), commonly referred to as 350s.

I think the wrx sounds like the wrx. IMO theres nothing else like, which makes it so awesome.

doesnt sound like 4 cylinder, but doensnt sound like a mustang V8 either (best sound, other than skyline/supra)

the H4 is pretty much like nothing else, hence its unique badass sound

it depends on what kind of exhaust set up you have i guess

i think it sounds sort of like a harley or something, and kinda like a V8 but without the bruteness to it.

it definitely sounds better than an Inline 4

I have an HKS Cat Back with the Titanium Tip. People tell me it is so deep and throaty it sound like a muscle car from the sixties. Of course it does not as the pitch will never be there, but it gets close.

Of course there is, rs's, legacys, 2.2l imprezas, svxs, some bugs

Its a combo of the boxer layout and headers. If you change the headers to equal length it will loose alot of rumble it still wont sound like a inline 4.

mine at low rpms with txs turboback sounds really low and at high rpms it sounds more like the tuned 2.0 that it is.

Actually, I heard a WRX with an Apexi N1 catback I believe, and it sounded like a V8 to me. I've heard a few that sound like Porsche flat 6s with TBE, but the 2.0 is pretty distinctive.

Maybe it sounds like a V8 running on 4 cyl.?

I have had people tell me that it sounds like a Harley before. Never occured to me that it sounded like a V8.

I also know someone who put equal length headers on their '04 WRX and it definitely killed the beautiful "Subaru Sound".

A v8? no offense to any of you guys...but WRX's sound more like a pissed off weed eater to me. They have their own "import" sound. Which is in no way bad, however- not a V8 ;-)

So true. Some guy came up to me at a meet once and said that I was getting misfire, but then I told him about the boxer engine and stuff.

No offense taken but...having passed by some place selling exactly that (weed eaters) on my way home, I can rightfully say they sound nothing alike. The weed eater sound is more like the improperly done Honda sound, I'd say.
