What am I missing here? Are they just going to crank it up to 30psi for one run? Sure the Mini is lighter but the kit that the Mini builder is selling is rated for only 200hp.

Of course the only thing better than cubic inches is cubic $. Throw enough money into even a Mini and I'm sure it'll go alright.

You're missing the fact that the Mini's driver has a bazillion years of track experience. Reportedly hanging w/the big fishies. I got a bad feeling about all this filming they're going to be doing.

But hey, if the Mini driver ends up taking out the STi driver, we'll send one of our finest WRX Wagon drivers over there for the rematch.

Then for round three, we'll move the challenge off the tarmac!

Talk about minis. Some punk in a mini tried to race me today and I walked him. Then when I slow down to turn he feels the need to almost swide swipe me. ****ing prick.

Ohhh, that long banked section is gonna make life hard on the Mini. Little car is seriously hooked up for some carving of the turns tho. STi owner needs some R componds and possibly a set of coilovers, and I think at that point the Mini would be overwhelmed.

If his Mini is stock I don't think he has a chance on that track. He'll lose several seconds each time through the trioval and around the banking. Lots of long straights, not many combo corners. The STi has something like 60% better power-to-weight ratio. If the STi driver is competent he should be fine. I have a feeling from all the hype that the Mini is not stock though!

There is no way the Mini isn't going to mod. If the STI can mod I don't think he should touch the engine, just lighten the body and maybe put in some coilovers, that should easily be enough, unless he's a terrible driver.

other interesting tidbits on the Mini driver...

"I have 28 years of track experience and the car will be set up to kick but....this is the secret code... 8-9= 130" (I think that means 130mph at 8&9 on the track).

Hope the MINI driver has changed his gearbox. That old hound of a unit will go pop pretty quickly with serious horses going through it. It dates back to the old Austin Montego box...
I believe BMW are going to change it for a getrag pretty soon - if they haven't already.

It'll be interesting to see how the el cheapo Brazilian Chrysler engine holds together with mucho boost as well!

They already did (6 spd getrag), we got one sitting in our driveway. Not just the tranny, whole car.

Anyway, I'm routing for the mini since it's the underdog powerwise. *flame suit on*

Just keep in mind a stock mini S slaloms @ 69.5 mph. I also have a feeling besides extensive handling mods this guy is pushing more than 200 hp. You can bump a mini S over 200 hp/ft-lbs for around $1500. I have a feeling this guy's budget is bigger than that. Turbo kits have pushed well over 300 whp, but thats unlikely with his car.

I have lost cars with well over twice the hp on twisty roads without a squeel (no STI's, just some V8 benzes) and I cant drive all that well.

But I agree with the other posts that the driver is the main factor. This guy knows the track and his car very well. I cant wait to see the outcome. Hopefully a video will surface.
