know what a good 1/8th mile time would be?

I went to the track today and ran a 9.7 sec@77 mph first pass. Then I ran a 8.9 sec@78 mph. This is my first time at the track with this car so I got really sh!tty launches both times. I was wondering what time you think I can (with practice) run judging by the trap speed.

A friend of mine has a mildly modded evo and I think he ran a 7.9sec@80 mph, but I'm not sure though.

Anything in the 7's is pretty fast, IMO. If I were you I would be trying for mid 8's with your modifications.

What were your 60 foot times? Also, the one-two shift is very critical. How were you doing there?

By the way, I think the trap speed is a little off. To run a 7.9 you'd have to be trapping in the migh 80's. That is assuming a 1.7 or so 60 foot.

    one-two shift was very jerky.

My first 60ft time was a 2.4 sec

the second was a 2.0 sec

I know he ran a 7.90, but I was just guessing the trap speed. I could've sworn it was 80 mph though.

Lots of room for improvement. Don't worry, it will come with practice. The launch and one-two shift are very important, especialy in the 1/8th.

You want to get the front tires spinning a little off the launch. Wether you dump the clutch at 5k or slip it a little is up to you but you need to get some spinnage in the front. Sounds like youre bogging at the line with those 60 foots.

On the one two shift I used to ride the clutch just a *tad* more than normal (dont burn it, just dont let it out as fast) to keep the revs up. That way you dont bog on the one-two shift. You'll know when you do it right.

Just keep practicing and you'll eventually find a way that works best for you. Also check around on this board and nasioc for what tire pressure guys use at the track. That will make a difference too!

I was able to run an 9 flat only on a cat-back running around 75-78mph.

With your setup you should beable to pull a low to mid 8.

How do you launch? I normally pump the pedal keeping it around 4500-5000rpm. This way the motor will build more boost than just holding the throtle at a certian rpm. And I use a slip-drop launch.

well, I messed up both launches.

First time I bogged the car when I did a 5k rpm launch and clutch drop. Second time I roasted the clutch at 6k rpm and I wasn't moving anywhere.

At Qualcomm I usually run 9.1's. But at Carlsbad, I hit 8.9.

You got lied to. Low 7s in the 1/8th is low 11s in the quarter. You think a stock STi can do that? An STi might do 8.20-8.30 with an experienced driver.

    I run 12.50s in the 1/4 and 7.8-7.9 @ 89 in the 1/8th.

An STi cannot do low 7's in the 1/8. At decent tracks, without extra crap in the car and a decent launch (1.7 60'), I only got to 8.3. I'm not the BEST driver but there's only so much you can squeeze out of a car.

And 7.9 @ 80 mph sounds a bit slow unless he rocketed to ueber-high speeds and coasted.

Best 1/8 mile ET for my STi: 8.363 (@ 81.52 mph - stock)
Best 1/8 trap for my STi: 88.668 mph (8.617 ET - crappy track - Godspeed downpipe)
