What was your most humbling race?

What race did you have that really put you in your place?

Here's my example:

Before my 2000 GT was supercharged, I had all the bolt ons, gears, etc, etc...I would just smoke cars all over the place so my ego was huge. Well I got called out by a friend of a friend who had an e36 m3. He was BONE stock, coupe, 5 speed...99 model. I told him that I would destroy him, but he said his car runs really strong, and I might be surprised. We met up and I showed him all my mods, and checked his car out...stock exhaust, stock intake, from what I could tell, totally stock...We agreed to go from a dead stop, with me spotting him a car length...We line em up, and on three, go...He outlaunches me and puts another car on me, im back 2 cars...Then I catch traction and pull 1 1/2 cars like NOTHING and then...

I JUST F'N SIT AT HIS BACK BUMPER!! I CANT pull on him at all and he's not pulling me either...we sit like this from 35-110 and then shut it down with me still right on his back bumper.

All of his friends were shocked and talking about how fast his car would be with mods. I drove home so mad and humbled.

I later ran into him after he had done intake/exhaust, and we went from a 50 roll and I took him by one length, but again it was super close...

Then I got the blower and didnt lose another race for as long as I had the car.

An E46 M3... stock and it still had the dealer plates... ofcourse i ran him from a roll so what did i expect... but it was a good race, i wasnt mad or anything... just realized i didnt drive the fastest thing on 4 wheels.

yep, yep...When I was mobbin in my blown GT I had a guy in a dealer tagged m3 come up next to me and rev on me...I was on the phone so I waved him off, and he TOOK OFF! I probably could have beat him, but man that thing scooted out!

My wife was riding along with me to the track. I met up with my buddy in his T04R single Supra on the way there. I could see by his tailpipe (and smell) that he was running race gas that night. I told my wife "watch this, you think my car is fast watch Brian's."

I pulled up along side Brian and downshifted to third at 70mph. I had him until 80mph when he came screaming by me. I kept in it until 120 or so and he was waaaaay up there. My wife goes "it sounded like a jet passing us!"

werd, modded supras sound AWESOME at WOT...

I remember when I saw a green one coming towards me on a 2 lane road...when he passed it was like "WHHEEEEEEEEOOOSSSHHHH" hahaha it was sweeet.

Once in 1995 the racing God's lined me up side by side with a new Dodge Viper at a stoplight. No traffic, just him and me sitting there. I threw a few revs his way and he smiled and nodded. Light turns green and before I have even let the clutch out all the way he had 10 bus lengths on me. Oh well, that old Ford Escort was never much from a dig anyway.

I chased a first generation Chevy S10 for 5 miles to race him. It had a mean sounding idle. I struck up a conversation at a light. Before I knew it, the light was green and he was gone. Mickey Thompson cheater slicks, C5 Corvette motor, straight pipes, and 150 shot. 'nuf said. Hands DOWN the fastest street vehicle that I have ever seen.

I have two races...I was Stage 2 + up pipe and I was dying to find an Evo to race...now I know how to gauge cars well and I figured my car vs a stock Evo from a dead stop would be a drivers race and I would have the advantage since I had free flowing exhaust/spool up time on my side. So anyway, I'm sitting in traffic and see a silver Evo...we sit through traffic together and finally get on the expressway, expressway is packed...but we get off the same exit to a stop sign...and it is now that I notice the HUGE muffler on his car, so I'm thinking oh crap. We roll like 5 mph and I punch it and he does a split second later...I have about 2 cars on him but hes pulling hard, by the time I got into third he put a car on me and I realized I'm not racing anymore modified Evo's until I get a turbo.

The second story is my friend with the E55 was begging me to race him...and like the idiot I am I tried from a roll, the end.

(P.S. I knew I couldn't win so I figured I'll just take my beating like a man

)

1. Mid 90s Mustang GT ... brother was driving my car w/ me in the passenger seat. We both think he was on the bottle because he pulled on us at 70mph+ like we we doing 40mph.

2. SRT4 w/ MBC ... he started to pull above 70mph, enough to let me know that I needed to tune my UTEC.

3. TransAM w/ many bolts ons ... he pulled on me like I was in the wrong gear. Later I found out he's runs low 12s.

I'm very pleased w/ my WRX; 3 lost and too many wins. Now I want to rematch since I've "tunned" the UTEC and I know I'm running stronger. Yes I "race/run" in all weather conditions especially in low traction straight aways; the flip side is that I don't need to go fast ... usually by 60mph there a huge difference. It's all fun and games.

my most humbling loss was very recent. I've gone against stang GT's, beaten an NSX (w/bad driver

), and many others at the track, so going against an SE-R on the highway didn't concern me much. I hit it at 50 and gained on him, but he came from behind and pulled a car on me. I started to reel him back in, however we had to slow down due to traffic. I don't think he had engine swap or anything. I'm positive he was spraying.

Definitely a turbo supra.... I had raced two cars prior (rx-7 and S4) and totally whooped on them so I was feeling good! Came down the off ramp at a nice speed and just pulled along side this supra. It didn't look like anything special we nodded and he went... and went... and went.... He totally housed me! I found out later that it was an ~800hp single turbo monster!

I have 4 to speak of. Since stage 4 wins have been many and losses have been few.

1. Older style fox body mustang. I usually pull right off from a roll but when he pulled me I knew it was over. It was primered gray and had 4 hupcap type rims...Sleeper
2. A cl55 amg. ENough said. He pulled my by 4-5 cars and he got to the light and was surprised I stayed so close. I was pissed cuz I lost...When I got home i realized what I had raced.....whoa. My car i sreally loud but his whine from his s/c was louder.
3. I have been ss's from a roll but this one was different. I went once and beat him and then at the light he turned someting on in the back of his trunk and asked to go again. He then from a roll proceded to put cars on me....Eh...who knows what he had.
4. Supra...Nuff said...he had the fmic but W/out the bigger turbo I might have had him...But well, i spooled and took the lead and then well he spooled and I gave up !!!!!lol

Many more wins than losses so its ok.. Its good to lose every once and awhile to keep your ego in check.
