Someone needs to calm down and take the time to read the comments. Context for this thread is FOCUS. SVT Focus != SVT Lightning != SVT Cobra.

In my honest opinion, the SVT Focus simply outhandled my WRX.. it felt more connected and spritely than my stock suspension WRX did...

The awesome thing though, even though they are discontinuing the SVT.. is the new PZEV Focus, the 2.3 duratec is probably the best thing to come out of Ford/Mazda in the last decade or so, and once people start boosting them... WRX's and even STI's better watch their back

One of my good friends here in LA has an SVT focus and he can run pretty well, we don't do any drag, because obviously I would win, but in the mountains he can fly by me, but im still on stock wagon suspension...hopefully it will all change with some new tires and a sway bar in the rear.

Stock for stock, the SVT can out-handle the wrx, spring rates are a bit more agressive for such a light car, about 170ft/lb, i think stock for us on a car which is 700 pounds heavier is ~165ft/lb. Also they have a stock 21mm rear sway bar. A major problem though is the lack of an LSD, or 4wd for that matter.

If the Focus setup is anything like the Probe setup... I still think my stock 93 se had better handling than my stock WRX. But you have to remember, that is just for street purposes, not gravel, snow, etc. Stock, I think the WRX suspension is a bit more of a generalist. I think it would be sweet if you could order it for gravel setup, tarmac, daily driver, etc. straight from the factory. Think about it - Subaru would be making that $$ instead of aftermarket companies.

R&T had a blurb about the SVT machines, hidden in one of the last mags. Said that the SVT Focus WILL return, most likely as an AWD 2 liter turbo....hmmm, seems I've seen that formula somewhere *scratches head*....OH YEAH!.....my garage.

Now if they'd grow a pair(the paper-pushers at Ford) and just get the Cosworth Escort cert'ed for the US, I'd consider one. Pretty nasty little cars.

Uh, yeah.... That's certainly a head scratcher!

And I hope Ford does bring a 2.0 turbo AWD car to the States. More competition for the WRX means that Subaru will have to keep improving the car to stay competitive and keep market share.

I watched one of the auto shows last year and they highlighted the SVT Focus. The loved it for its handling capabilities. Everything else aside they said it was one of the must fun cars that they had driven. Hats off to Ford for releasing more SVT products. The 03+ Cobras are putting down 390whp, the SVT Contour is out and I watched a lowered one run an Autocross this past weekend..he looked good, the SVT Focus is supposedly incredibly nimble for you handling freaks. Let's not forget the GT with 565whp either! Top all that off with their quality being on the upswing. It's good to see their committment to enthusiasts.

Well to change a misstated fact...SVT is not dead or whatever you want to call it they are just on there off year. Since the new mustang is coming out and the focus program has been side lined till the new 2.3 motor is in and the Lighting is awaiting some power plant to make it run with the SRT-10 they have a vaction. They will be back through I'm sure. Oh well LIke i've said atleast ten times before on this forum...if SVT came out with a Turbo AWD four banger with good handling and in the Trim that the Roush Focus has...I'd buy one in a heart beat.

They're not being marketed as a fast car. They're being marketed as a fun and nimble car.

    How'd you like its handling?

It rode pretty nice. The steerring was nice and tight. Didn't get to really whip around any corners or anything but it seemed like it handled well. Ride was fairly comfortable. The salesman kept telling me to get on it because I guess he thought it was quick. I told him I was used to driving a WRX so it wasn't going to seem quick to me no matter how many times I got on the gas.
