Hey man, a few more mods after your DP and MBC, you will have no problem top end. Good luck.
This is a discussion on I overestimated the STi's top end. within the Comparison: WRX vs World forums, part of the Community - Meet other Enthusiasts category; Today I raced a buddy of mine that has a pretty heavily modded 300zx. When I had my mildly modded ...
Today I raced a buddy of mine that has a pretty heavily modded 300zx. When I had my mildly modded '01 Camaro SS, we used to be about even going from a standing start. From a roll, I would usually take him by 1/2 a car or so.
I traded the SS in for the STi and the only mod I have is a Blitz SUS intake.
Today we ran. When we went from a stop I'd pull 1 1/2 cars on him right out of the hole (no surprise there). I'd hold that lead all the way through 3rd and then we had to shut down (short road). When we went up on the highway and raced from a roll, it wasn't pretty. He pulled away from me easily every time. The slower we started from, the better I did but the bottom line was, once I was done with 3rd gear, I was done for.
Now, I know the STi's claim to fame is the launch and that its not noted for it's top end but I expected better. My Camaro certainly felt stronger up top but I didn't think it was that much of a difference. My buddy told me not to feel too bad. He said that my Camaro was the only LS1 car that ever beat him (and he races a lot). Of course, that didn't make me feel any better about getting rid of it!
I'm still happy with my decision to get the STi. I love the car. I'm just a little bummed at the moment. I have a Godspeed DP on order and a MBC in the garage waiting to go on so that will help a little. I didn't really think a bigger turbo was in my future for this car but I may have to re-think that!

'04 WRB STi

Well, the Godspeed downpipe will make me catless but I seriously doubt that would be enough. He walked away easily each time.Originally posted by AjIsDope

Downpipe, catback, boost controller will make a good fight.![]()
the 300zx is no dog ... its not a v-6 its a v-twin the trubo ones give me a good run high way
if its not fast it better be a show car
Yes I know. 300hp stock. They can get over 400+ easily. The thing holding them back is the dated design. There about 10 years old now.![]()

EDIT: FYI, a v-twin belongs on a Harley.

It's an SS. Why would you feel bad?

Here's what you do.
I'm running Godspeed downpipe, Greddy EVO catback, Blitz SUS, and turobxs high performance boost controller (16psi) - which does wonders for spool up/ performance. My car is noticeably faster than stock.
Yesterday, I had another encounter with a LS1 Trans Am from a roll. Unfortunately it was only from 2nd gear (30mph or so). I hit it first and he tried as hard as he could to stay with me. I kept him about 1-2 cars behind me all the way to 90 - 100 mph or so. We had to let off because of a red light and some traffic. But I can tell you from a 2nd gear roll I was as fast or faster than that LS1. I'm sure he would have started pulling on me at higher speeds but under 100mph I was faster.
To be able to run with an LS1 at speeds over 100mph , it will probably take all my mods + ECU mods
Your LS1 should have been doing 106-109 mph. The STi isn't going to approach that without a few more mods.

w3rd. maybe a boost controller too. the top end of my WRX opened up big time with a DP and cat back. 4th gear pulls like 3rd used to.Originally posted by AjIsDope
