    Forester XT vs. BMW M3

Had a chance to play with an M3 (only from a roll) the other day. We didn't have the opportunity to line up or anything I just got behind him and tried to keep up. I don't think he was trying to race or knew what was behind him I think he was just out ripping his car for fun. I was in second gear and he started to take off, I was about 2 cars back or so when he slowed down, about 80mph but it seemes like the M3 would of pulled away even more at higher speeds. Not sure what would have happened from a stop but I would guess the result would be the same. Not bad for a wagon though. He was probably wondering how a station wagon was keeping up with him.

no such thing as detuned STi engine. There's two version of the current STi engine. One's 2.5 liter and one's 2.0 liter.

all the Subaru model basically shares the same flat-4 turbo or non-turbo w/ different tuning, and there's the flat-6.

I think calling it a "detuned STI engine" might not be all that inaccuratte. From what I understand the major differences between the STI and the XT engine are: different cam profile, different turbos and different engine management.

I know it is a 2.5 liter turbo. other than that all I know is that my Forester screams in the first three gears and can hand a 350Z an ass-whipping. As you have read above the Forester is no M3 but the performance that Subaru has gotten out of this vehicle is immpressive.

if that's the logic then WRX or 2.5RS also has a detuned STi engine. =_=

I've read reviews where they are referring to the Forester as a the STI's cousin.

actually, the xt is a detune sti.....beside for the obvious power rating.....the first thing you'll notice when popping the hood is that the xt has a smaller ic, amongst other internals

so yes, the xt is a detune 2.5(*edit: in the sti)

u know it... can help it cuz i'm bored most of the time.

anywayz, how about this, STi 2.5 engine is a modified 2.5 turbo engine from XT. It would makes more sense anyway.

IMO there's no detuning of a specially tuned engine in a special edition car so it can be used in regular cars. There's only modifying and more modifying from a base engine with the exception of RACE car going road version.

argument can go either way. that's just how I look at it.

So then the STI 2.5L turbo is a modified Xt 2.5 turbo which is a super-modified 2.5RS engine - a somewhat step brother to the 2.5 from a TS Wagon
