2004 EVO RS in the US (0-60/4.4s) but...

In Feb. Motor Trend, they tested the '04 EVO RS that will be sold this year, with only 3500 produced a year. Its everything that the 2003 Evo is, but there are some exceptions:

    No...

    AC
    Audio System
    HID Headlights
    ABS
    Carbon Fiber Wing
    Rear Wiper
    Map Lights
    Rear Assist Handles
    Leather Wrapped Brake handle
    Center Console Lid
    Keyless Entry
Oh, and also a stripped trunk, unpainted side mirrors and door handles

-This gives it an 88-144lb reduction depending on options
Options for this car are and upgraded 315-amp seven-speaker infinity stereo w/ trunk mounted sub, and leather Recaro seats.

Doing this keeps mitsubishi with their promise of keeping the Evo under 30k. But at the same time will keep producing the Non-RS Evo most likely with better performance #'s and over 30k.
    (^^ My opinion)

The Evo RS price as tested in the magazine is for $26,500 ($27,095 est.)

Evo RS/Evo Performance Specs from Magazine:

    0-60mph 4.4sec./5.1sec

    1/4mi 13.2@99.76mph/13.50@101.65

    Braking 60-0 w/o Abs 119ft/ w/ABS 111ft

    What do you guys think?

    I'd get a non-RS evo. ;p

    I like comfort.

But then again, the RS isn't made for people like me.

I think it's pretty awesome that they're doing that. Making the car a better performer, for less money.....not a bad call. Of course not everyone will want it over a regular EVO, but it's a great deal for those who would. Hopefully Subaru will do this with the STI, but I doubt it as it would infringe on the regular WRX's price-zone.
Too bad I couldn't afford a WRX, but life goes on........hopefully......

Sounds like some kind of homologation special for sanctioned racing, but most of those deletes seem like things a racer would do anyway, in the course of prepping it for track use. I guess it saves some time and a little bit of money, both of which are in short supply if you're racing without corporate sponsorship.

I don't really see this as a showroom model, more like a catalog option or something. Wonder what the insurance companies would say about buying a performance car like this without all the safety options, assuming it's for street use.

edit: Didn't Dodge do this with the Neon? There was a stripped version with nothing but a seat, basically. They might still, I don't know. It was for the Neon race series, which was a real blast to watch. 30+ Neons trading paint and cornering on 3 wheels.

yea, this car obviously isnt for anyone. for hard core racers it seems to be the perfect car, but this will not work as a daily driver for me any day.
