    wrx vs snow

ok i drivin on a down hill road about 30 mph and ther is a stop sign so i do as i always do slam the brakes and get a crazy skid( my old car did not have ABS "0 sh!t") i see a car crossing the intersection i try to apply the brakes slowly damn ABS still not doing a damn thing. as i enter the intersection i turn the wheel fast but stead hit the gas whip out the back end take a 90 degree turn at about 25 mph safe and sound. I LOVE AWD dont like abs but awd is the sh!t
    thank you

We're all equal when we hit the brakes on the snow. I wish someone would teach classes to douche bags in SUVs in the DC area during snowstorms.

I have good snow tires on my WRX (Green Diamond Alpins) and I went out on packed snow and played around with them. This was my first experience with them on snow.

Stomping the brakes at around 30MPH, the ABS came on (expected), and the car stopped as quickly as I would expect it to stop given conditions.

There was no "complete loss of braking" that some people seem to perceive. Keep in mind that this is in a very early MY02 WRX, which, according to some people, has very bad ABS logic.

I know people will love to argue about this, and I'm not posting to try to start a fight about it. My own experience has been that the ABS works just fine, and as intended, even with the OEM tires. If you ABS-brake through the intersection, you would have slid through anyway without the ABS.

(Alpins had good grip, by the way. My stage 2 easily overpowered them when asked, of course, but they're better than the stock tires by far. Haven't done any cornering tests yet.)

I don't know how anyone who has to drive in the snow/ice/slush can complain about abs, not that anyone here is but alot of people do. I've drove the last 4 yrs with a FWD non-abs car and it sucked ass. Half the time the only way i could make some corners was to pull the ebrake otherwise i couldn't turn at all and i'd slide staight through corners, at like 5 mph.

Different conditions? Different tires? Different vehicle? Different speed?

    Not a valid survey.

If you're trying to stop a WRX quickly on a slick surface with RE92s, you're going to have a problem, ABS or not.

How in the hell do people find threads this old?? I've always wondered that because I thought each section of the forum only shows a few pages?
