Funny story about a Civic hb

I had to share this with people that would appreciate it because the people that I work with just don't understand.

Driving to work this morning I came upon an older model Civic hatchback, probably a '91/'92. He had the typical 19 year old mods, lowered to extremes, wheels that had a higher value than his car, large fart pipe, and a tach with a shift light that looked like a wall clock mounted on his dash next to his A-pillar. I don't know if this happens to you guys but I always notice that people in modded cars, mostly Civics, don't stare at our WRX's, however, they do check their mirrors frequently and side-stare at us just to keep an eye on what we are up to. They know the capabilities of our cars from reading SCC every month and staring at us would make them feel inferior in some way so they try to do it on the down low. Anyway this kid is driving very calmly, not jumping lights or revving on me in any way nor was I doing it to him. We continued for about 4 or 5 miles in rush hour traffic when it happened. He was getting in the left hand lane to turn on to another road and he revved on me, big time. What kind of little coward revs on someone as they are turning onto a different road. I felt like I had been violated, like he had just given me one of those ricer fly-bys. Part of me wanted to make a U-turn and go back and smoke him just to reinforce the fact that the WRX could. But instead I laughed and continued my gridlocked drive to work.

I did not post this to instigate flames that WRX owners are better than anyone else, I am simply trying to make light of a funny situation that ocurred during a hectic drive in morning traffic.

I had a guy in a Chevy Silverado do a very similar thing the other night, only we were both going to go straight and he had to merge into my lane. To think that he thought he could beat me at the light!!

I had one the other day with a big Ford F250 or something like it. The road ahead narrows and at the light, he guns it, knowing that the road is narrowing and that he'd probably hit me if I wasn't fast enough! It took me by surprise so I put it down into WOT because the road narrowed in less than 60 feet. He was still gunning it after I passed him but he came extremely close to hitting me. I was really pissed off...

I have noticed this also. I'll even go so far as to glance across and stare directly at them, but apparently the WRX and its pilot are completely invisible in the world of the ricer.

In your case the guy was probably being immature but there is a possiblity that the reason why they revved is to say "hey nice car!" becuase I've had people revving at me to catch my attention to compliment my car. Also, some of the more ghetto looking civics (especially hatchbacks) can actaully take on the WRX beucase they're so light but you can usually tell if they're fast or not by the mods they have.

same here. a lot of times in stop and go traffic, a neighbor will rev at me and i'll rev back.

i envision it like our cars are saying "hello, i like you"

wow, the exact same thing happened to me today, except it was a turbo beetle. He had an exhaust (dual tip) and my lane was jammed. Right aroudn the corner, there is a freeway entrace, and while I was waiting for traffic, I heard "pppssssssstttttttt vroooooom" and it turned out that he was revving his engine so I can hear his turbo spool up, and then he wheel spin right next to me and took off to the freeway. I was a little angry and almost chase him to the freeway, but why bother for trouble.

But I suppose I understand why he did that next to me, maybe its because my HKS hiper (complete with uppipe and downpipe) is a little on the ricey side (you know how big those HKS hiper tip), and my car idle pretty loud.
