I think the way they had to shape the exhaust manifold to fit it in this car... at least that's what I read somewhere

The M coupe has a much shorter wheelbase(by >8") and according to BMW, they had to mount the cat closer to the manifold and as a result more restriction up front.

BMW somewhat under-rates these motors. They claim Peak horsepower at 7300rpm is 315, but in reality the car redlines near 8000rpm.

Some states the car has in the neighborhood of 324-330 hp.

And yes the M Coupe is BMW's best handling car. Its 2.6 times more stiffer than the roadster. I recall in car and driver that BMW states that the coupe body is BMW's stiffest chassis in history!

I think the M3 is a beautiful car, but I'm not a fan of the M coupe.

And they call the WRX ugly

This car is not for everyone, BMW designed this car specifically for the enthusists. Personally, I love it. If you ever drove these in a canyon, then you will quickly fall in love with the car. I loved it before I even drove it. This car I believe is the "ultimate driving machine." Drive one and you'll find out why.

I could have bought an M3 but I tried to justify myself to spending an extra 7k for options that I didnt even want. To half the human population who doenst know anything about cars, the M3 is just another 3 series BMW. With the M Coupe, its truely unique and VERY rare. Everywhere I go, old people and young people would compliment on the car, and give me the thumbs up. Its great.

Yeah, I understand. Sorry if I came off harsh. I feel the same way about my car (love it) and I'm sure yours is a blast to drive. Aren't thumbs ups the greatest?

From what I have seen, they are pretty quick cars

But I think the styling is just plain "wrong". It looks like a shoe (albeit a shoe with an M badge).

If i were in the market for a Pocket rocket like the M Coupe, i would get one of the new Miata's with the twin cam 4.6 ford Cobra motor stuffed into it. The body lines are better, the power to weight ratio is OFF THE HOOK, you can add a supercharger if your totally insane; and wheels and brakes are easily had.

Around here in San Diego, all the Z3 drivers are girls (read: wives) and the men by the Z8's.

I think the M coupe looks like a BMW gremlin/pacer, and when you add that smurf blue........it's just way too reminiscent of the 'WAYNES WORLD' GREMLIN/PACER.

    but its still quick.............right?

Re: From what I have seen, they are pretty quick cars

The Z8 is a limited production supercar, not to be had by most.
I agree that the M coupe is not the styling pinnacle of BMW's history. I personally don't like the car either.

If you throw a V8 in a Miata, you will destroy it's handling capabilites. On a canyon road the M coupe would leave you wondering how the hell it can go around a corner that fast. It's not always about quick. I was driving home from the dragway last night and I was like, "I love corners."

The Z3 M is a man's car. That thing must haul. I don't even like the looks of the regular Z3, but when those fender wells are that wide it takes on a new persona.

I complimented the boss of the company I used to work for ( I didn't even know he was the boss) on his Z3 M. I was like, "Nice car, and I see you opted for one that's actually fast." He smiled.

i guess s4_dukar and i are te only ones that actually like the looks of the coupe. im a big fan of hatchbacks. i miss my 95 civic hb. but if i had to choose between an m3 and a m coupe, id only take the m3 because of what it is. but i do really like how the m coupe looks

    Wow nice car...
it reminds me of the new age Impreza,
you have to drive to fall in love with its shape
Can you write down how you feel driving a RWD (and such a mad one) after owning an AWD car.

I had a silver one of these past me like I was standing still at VIR, mostly because of his brakes. He could out brake just about everything on the track. I may have a set of Wildwoods (sp?) by Roeblin Road, so maybe we have a rematch (of Course you guys still have about 100 HP over my track car )
