What are we comparing; slalom, rolling-start, or standing-start?

I'd say WRX owns the latter two categories. Mini wins the slalom. $hit, an original mini cooper would probably drop the WRX in a slalom test!!

    Thumbs up

WRX crushes the Mini in every single category. What does the Mini do in the 1/4 mile? Yeah, I thought so.

Every single category meaning 'just the quarter mile'. The WRX is far from outstanding in the slalom. In fact, in SCCs latest 8 best cars of the year, it was the slowest car (by a considerable margin). The seven cars it got spanked by, were (in no particular order):

    RSX Type-S 68.0mph
    Focus SVT 68.7mph
    Tiburon GT 68.2mph
    Miata 68.2mph
    Sentra SE-R 70.2mph
    Celica GT-S 69.9mph
    MR2 Spyder 69.0mph

The WRX managed a pitiful 66.8mph

Next year we will probably see the mini in this list.

I'll wager the mini has a shorter 60-0 stopping distance also...

I beg to differ. The WRX tested in that issue of SCC was POORLY prepared by some idiot that didn't know what they were doing.

Here's what a real WRX can do.

Exactly my point. The Mini has nothing on the WRX in the handling department.

scc tested with the wimpy re92 m/s tires. The fact that the wrx kept up with such meager rubber tells you that with the optional wheel/tire hook up it will kick all of the others tail royally.
WRX beats the bigger modern mini hands down on any autocross course any day. As far as a well preped old mini, I can't call it.

How did I know somebody would bring up the M2 car. I guess 'lightly modded' is a pretty subjective title.

If a stock WRX was slowest out of the vehicles I listed, imagine what the others could probably do with modified suspension and uprated tires. To me, comparing a modified WRX to a stock Mini is meaningless because the results you get are just dependent upon the depth of your wallet. There's a reason that SCC test the cars back-to-back in their factory configuration, anything else makes the test purely subjective.
