    Racing a modded GTI

My buddy has an '03 GTI with chip, intake, and BOV. He basically thinks his car is untouchable, and we are slated to race later tonight. I took a ride in it tonight, and judging from the good old butt dyno, I think I can take him. Then again, he did have two passengers in it. I have a completely stock '04 5spd sedan. How do you guys think I'll do? I think I've heard of stock rexes beating modded GTI's, but I just want to find out before going into it. Since we're racing soon, I'd appreciate quick replies. Thanks.

From a stop, with a good launch you'll hand him his ass. From a roll, it should be a good race.

Thanks for the reply. Does anyone have a special launch technique you like to use on the street?

yeah, try this one: launch before he does.
that usually does the trick. lol.

but seriously. you traded in a supra for a rex? how old was the supra? the last generation models are monsters when modded.

Yep, got rid of the supra. It was a '95 red hard top, very rare. However, the kicker is that it was the non turbo model. It was still fairly quick for what it was, but all the weight of it was holding the straight six back. Plus, I needed a year round car and that rear wheel drive sucked on anything but dry pavement. I miss it, but I think the rex is a step up.

good luck man. my best friend has a 03 gti with a chip, exhaust and a CAI and with my stg 2 setup i cant pull him from a roll. he stays right beside me the entire time. i would defintly try to either race from a stop or from abotu a 20mph rolll in 1st. if you start faster then that and he is a good driver and your car is stock then you will probebly see his taillights.

So how'd it go? I imagine that GTi gave you a pretty good run for your money.

Funny thing is the kid never got back to me last night. I guess he was just too scared.......lol j/k. Oh well, I see him often and I'm sure we'll race soon. I'll be sure to write up how it goes. This actually just gives me more time to work on my launch.

    Or do some mods!

Get a boost controller and a boost gauge and set the boost to 15psi. Then go spank his ass.

i have run a chipped/exhausted 337 (granted it's turboed)....i must say i was pretty impressed with the performance.

i couldn't put too many car lenths between him and i above 80mph

Twisty Monster - 335 ft/lb of torque @ 3600 rpm on a stock turbo. Is that possible? Yes it is.
