Rolling up my windows at 120

Had a little encounter with a second gen Eclipse on the way home tonight. It was lowered, with rims and what appeared to be aftermarket exhaust. I was kinda' checking it out and just decided to drive on past. He had other ideas and kept pace with me. After a little of this I downshifted to fourth (doing about 80) and took off. He paused and then chased. I thought he would never reel me in the way I snookered him, but he never really faded back that far. As I pulled to the top of fourth it dawned on me that my windows were down and probably creating drag. So here I am rolling my windows up to try and keep this Eclipse at bay at 120+. Got them up just in time for the shift to fifth, and he was all over the back of me. Luckily for me, we came up on some traffic. Had to shut down from ~135 pretty quick, but he never got around me .

We chatted briefly after getting of the highway and both gave each other the thumbs up. He was cool even after I snookered him on the jump. It has got me thinking though, maybe it is time to finally do a mod or two. What do you guys and gals think? Time to de-cat?

I never understood how people can roll on the highway with their windows down. If drizze99 reads this, he'll probably understand why I had my windows up when I raced him. His windows were down: advantage me. When I drag race on the track, I even go so far as to fold my mirrors in.

I have seen a couple of options to make the mirrors more aerodynamic. One is a piece that goes on the back of the mirror (painted side) and is supposed to improve airflow. The other is totally different mirrors which are carbon fiber and don't look too bad. They are pricey though. Vivid has them on their new '04 car.

How about instead of struggling and spending cash to try to make your mirrors more aerodynamic, you instead mod your motor and make more hp!!? Just a thought!

watch those dsm's ... i have a vishnu stage 1 and i got arse handed to me by a 1g talon. Granted he was shooting fireballs between shifts and when we were hanging together i noticed an FMIC. I used to hang with the DSM crowed their 3rd gear is wicked fast.
