there are a lot of competitors in the entry level luxury car right now. Namely CL\TL type S, 300M limited, BMW 330, Es300.. it is really nothing special.
This is a discussion on Watch out for the G35 within the Comparison: WRX vs World forums, part of the Community - Meet other Enthusiasts category; Not out yet... still, will be certainly mentionned on this board in April looking for us and our WRXs! Honestly, ...

Honestly, I think it's a very nice car. I like the shape of it. I'll try to test drive one as soon as I can.

It surely is a beautiful car. I work for two auto writers and they both test drove it at the NW unvailing a couple weeks ago. They said it was an excellent car and they're excited to see how well the USDM takes it
Hopefully, the G35 won't be the only version of the Skyline to hit our shores!

Actually I thought it looked like the new Altimas
I'd rather have a Toyota built and Vertex tuned Verossa. Those things kick ass and have a 2.5L twin turbo inline six to back up the looks. Nothing like 280hp stock and loads of potential.
Its more of a 4 door 350Z than a Maxima...Originally posted by jk147

350Z is also a glorified Maxima coupe.
Like what I said before, people are more impressed with the "this is a new Z!" then the actual performance. The new Z is NOTHING like the old 300Z TT when it comes to performance. I will be impressed if they slap twin turbos on the 350z. But right now, it is just a glorified maxima coupe.
You right, its not the 300ZTT, ...
Its not nearly as heavy.
As far as HP:
The TT and the New 350Z both use the VQ/VG and the stock numbers are 300HP/280Ft-lbs with a turbo vs 280HP/283FT-lbs NA
and over 200 lbs lighter.
The new car also handles a bit better, despite having a slightly taller roof line. (The handling statement comes from a current Z32 owner who drove one about 2 months ago. And yes, I was there at the track at the time).
If you are talking what can be done for modifications, yes the turbos are easier to modify. On the bright side of this is the VG30DETT should bolt right in if you want a twin turbo monster. Or you could just wait for the VG35DETT. Which will be in the neighborhood of 350-400 HP, and the internals to support much more.
I take it everybody missed the official press release Nissan made in early Jan about Nissan killing off any future GTR model as well as killing off the Silvia and both the RB series motor and the SR20DET motor. According to them because of the new emissions standard we have to go to in Japan in late 2002 they will stop building turbo cars. So I wouldn't hold my breath waiting on any GTR or VG35DETT coming out anytime soon. Renault is calling they shots and they want one motor for everything. That VG35DE will be in everything from trucks to Altimas.
RNN, yes I read about that.....and I cried for those tried and true engines too....possibly the meanest iron block to come from Japan...good ol' RB26.....SR20, you have a place in my heart too.
Pardon my ignorance, but whatever happened to the 300ZX? Any idea why Nissan discontinued the ZX model line in the US, and do they still market them in Japan?![]()
Man, that was just a sweet automobile.
-Pace
The ZX was discontinued in the US for similar reasons as to why they discontinued the Supra and RX-7...the market wasn't demanding 2-seater (although I don't think the Supra is truly just a 2-seater) sports car with immense power, plus insurance on these cars was almost ludicrous...those two factors influenced Nissan, Toyota, and Mazda to put their efforts elsewhere.
I may not be good with cars hardware-wise, but I know the market well! hehe

Market killed the 3000GT, RX-7, Supra and 300Z. Damn those SUV's.![]()
I am still not impressed about the new 350Z, it really doesn't stand out from the crowd like it used to. Now, the new skyline is a different story.
Well, I knew about the RB series, what a bummer.
I missed the announcement about the Turbo engines though.
When we were talking to the reps in August, they said the GTR was being developed with either the VG35DETT or a new engine based on the VK45DE, probably called the VG45DE. Did the article say no GTR, or just no Turbo engines?
We will have the reps back in June, so I will grill them then.
