In a choice between the GTI and RSX-S, I'd definately choose the Acura. I have owned a GTI and an Integra and the overall quality of the Integra was much better than the VW.

I've been a VW guy for over 10 yrs and the RSX caught my eye. Search for some of my old posts for a more in depth review but the RSX was the GTI that I never had the time to build. Comparing the new GTI to the RSX Type S the little Acura wins hands down (this is saying a lot from a fella breed to sneer at Honda products from birth). There will be one in my garage soon for a front wheel drive play toy.

Don't let the quarter mile rules crowd sway you too much, the RSX is a blast to drive on normal roads where you do at least 99.9% of your driving. Who cares if a car can run 1480 ft or 10 ft in 16,15,14,13,12,11,10 seconds? If that's why you buy a car just build a dragster.
