Well let me say I never got to run him from the stop only from a 2nd gear roll. I have a VS0 w/ DP. Anyway, we were side by side and I punched it, I stayed with him for a few seconds then all of the sudden I hear his turbo that sounded like a jet engine taking off. His tires started to spin and he finally caught traction and I thought that someone tied a cruise ship anchor to my WRX. It was ungodly fast. He must have pulled 8 car lengths on me by the time I was in the middle of third. I asked him what he had done and he said a built engine, new turbo, new heads, exhaust, and alcohol injection, plus who knows what else. We talked for a second then went on our ways. Damn Modded GN's are fast![]()

The 86 is a high 12 second car easily with some basic tweeks.
An 87 GN-X will do 11's without any problems. Just a few minor bolt-ons.
There are MANY sub-11 second GN's around. They can be NASTY to run with.
I raced one at the track in my 03 Cobra when it was stock and he beat me twice. I was pulling 13.1's @ 109 and he was pulling 12.8's @ 108. I could hang from 0-60 no problem but after that he walked me.
Also a bad track. He was basically running a stock 86 GN with the boost turned up. Cost him $5K for the car and he runs 12's. Says LOW 12's with 18/21 psi and race gas.

Don't wanna mess with a modded GN for sure. The stock ones you can futs with, but they have great top end. 3.8 with an intercooled turbo-they are pretty strong and respond veeeery nicely to simple mods.

Yep they can be scary fast. At least you lost to a serious car
I also got smoked by one at the track last year. I was talking to the guy for about 15 minutes in the staging lanes. I didn't know that we were actually going to run until we got to the line and he was motioned by the track official to move up to run me. I was like "damn, this might be ugly".
Anyhow, he messed up on his launch (it seemed like he stalled or something) and I was out in front quickly until about mid-track, at which point he blew by me as if I was sitting still. Even with the problem he had on the launch he still managed to run like an 11.8 at like 120mph or so IIRC.
2002 WRBP WRX
Old setup = BPM GT turboback, PDE up-pipe, Unichip w/custom map, cooler plugs (NGK range 7), Walbro 255LPH FP, MBC (15 PSI), and custom built turbo utilizing the 13G housing (Internals: Hitachi compressor wheel, Mitsu 15G turbine lightly clipped).
1/4, 12.88 105.10 - 1/8, 8.09 85.96
New set up = Now w/UTEC and STI Injectors
1/4, ? - 1/8, ?
Yeah, those things can be quick. They make good power, and transfer it well. They also have beefy components that take mods without serious upgrades.
Hey, there is no shame in losing every now and again. Just don't make it a habit.
When it comes to Buicks maybe I should stick to racing the Park Avenue![]()

Does anyone have any good links to info and pics about GN? I always hear good things about their speed, but have a hard time finding any decent info.

Wow...never even thought about those before. Uncommon, common or what? I know nothin about the GN.

Less and less common since they went out of production in 87.
That along with the fact that less then 40,000 were produced total for a four year run of the turbocharged ones. Then after you take into account wreaks rust and other things. They are getting very scarce.Originally posted by OotabaJinga
