Post Coronet Vs WRX - Opinion

Need your opinion, especially you big block boys, on how my WRX(mods in sig) will do against my buddies 1966 Coronet in a 1/4 mi race.

    Ok, his car:
    1966 Coronet
    built 440
    4 speed
    391 gears
    everything else stock....looks sweet

best run last year:12.99 before rebuild

    My car:
    02 WRX
    See signature for mods

havent ran at the track yet.

We will be running at Portland International Raceway next weekend, so let me know if I will be smoked or will it be close...and I would also like to know why and how you based your opinion.

    Thanks

If you can drive, you should do well. With slicks, he'll beat you.

    no slicks

I can drive, but never been on a strip racing and he has...so he has the advantage there.

I think after the first run, I should be ok(butterflies and all)

I say you go before the prescribed date and get some practice launches in.

Draggin' a WRX is all in the launch.

If I bog the launch bad enough in my WRX (which has run as quick as 12.75) I'll be lucky to pull out a 13.2 or 13.3...

Should be a close race. I love those old musclecars. You both have setups to run in the high to mid 12's. Get a video of the races if you can.

Listen to is2scooby. The WRX is difficult to launch without damaging the tranny. Bogging will insure your loss. Be sure to run on 42 psi tires.

I have been practicing my launches on a deserted strip near my house.

I believe I have it down, but I have never gone before a tree....so I know I have that to overcome.

The 440 seems to be more built as a truck engine than it is for a car.. however I wouldn't fear a 440 in any of the classic Mopars... unless its REALLY built.

from what i've heard, launching on the track is so different than the street that the only real way to practice track launches is to do it at the track. i've never been, so i dont know, but i've heard that from more than one person.

Oh, my... There are a bunch of 440 6-pak owners out there that might beg to differ.

Um - yeah! I would fear ANY 440's. They are torque monsters. And if this guy is running 12's with his on street tires, you KNOW it is well built.

Thats what I was thinking and his car is a torque monster!

I am hoping I can drive around him, if I am not with him at the 1/8 mi, then I think I am done.

I think we have about the same in the top end...so it shall be fun.

Got a camcorder set up for next weekend....so a vid will follow....just hope it shows me winning.......lol!!!

Can't wait to see the vid. If he throws on some slicks then he will be able to hit mid to low 12's. You won't have a chance then.... unless he is a bad driver.....
