    New 1/4 Mile Times- Vishnu Stage 0, 93 OCTANE, 16 psi Max...13.248!!

Well tonight I did it... I ran twice and the second time broke into the 13.2s with
just the basic Vishnu Stage 0 upgrade kit.

    Heres the breakdown-

Run 1 (Tied my previous best on 98 octane using only 93 octane)

    60'- 1.834
    330'- 5.457
    1/8- 8.496
    MPH- 81.32
    1000'- 11.097
1/4- 13.332 (exact time as previous best!)
    MPH- 100.70

    Run 2

    60'- 1.831
    330'- 5.422
    1/8- 8.436
    MPH- 81.86
    1000'- 11.027
    1/4- 13.248!!
    MPH- 101.67

I could have ran again... but I thought this was good enough for the night!!

    The low down-
    Stock Tires
    Stock Clutch
    Stock Tranny
    Stock BOV
93 Octane (Mobil in Riverside, MD)
    3/8 tank of gas
    No spare
    W/ jack
    W/ Baby seat
    16 psi MAX boost
    Tapered to 14.5ish at redline.
    I weigh 230lbs.

I launched at 5500k, but nothing too aggressive, no clutch frying or gear banging,
no clutch side stepping...just quick and easy, relatively speaking of course...

I have Vishnu Stage 0 only with a Blitz SBC i-D ECB in favor of the Stage 0s MBC.

Well I think that covers it...

Like I said before... I new that with the current set-up I could pull out a 13.2...
    and here it is.

Bring on Stage 1, I cant wait to shave at least another 2 or 3 tenths off this
time... and of course all on 93 octane!!

    Doug

BTW- pic of timeslip coming real soon...

BTW again- this is a copy and paste from i-club... sorry if it looks funny....

We're in the process of receiving 10-14 inches of snow!

    Well, snow is fun anyways.......

I've hearing a lot about the vishnu setup, and I was going to go with the Cobbs Tuning package. Can someone offer a good review of the two kits?????

BTW, nice times... This will shut the Mitsubishi camp up for saying the 4g63 is the best abng for the buck. I am sick of hearing them tell me how easy it is to make the 4G fly with simple bolt-ons...

4G63's are pretty easy to modify w/ simple bolt ons but thats cause they have been around for awhile. I was gonna get a GSX but Im hoping you guys can help change my mind so I stay w/ getting a Scoob.

My cousin has a '97 AWD Talon TSi. Its fast... he ran a 14.3 with the following:

    1st gen bov (+1 or 2 psi)
    restrictor hose mod (+1psi)
    Injen Intake (quicker spool)

DSMs have alot of support for them and the parts are cheap. The WRX is catching up at a record pace, though. We already have cars deep in the 12s, and I am sure ones running 11s.

WRX perf. parts arent quite as cheap yet... but they have come down quite abit in a year... still high though.....

In my opinion, working on both the WRX and the Talon, I feel that it is easier to work on my WRX than work on his Talon. Perhaps the only exception was the uppipe install and changing spark plugs... the Talon doesn't have an uppipe and the plugs are RIGHT on top where the WRXs are on the sides.

I have invested $1500 dollars in my car in regards to horsepower creating mods.... and my best 1/4 is a 13.2. Out of the past 5 consecutive runs ( on 2/22 and 3/1) I ran: 13.332, 13.390, 13.346, 13.332 and 13.248 in that order.

I think for the same price you could get a 1st gen to run that, but a 2nd gen may require more work. The biggest hindrance on the 2nd gen is the turbo. That sucker is tiny. It can hit a peak of 16 or 17 psi... but it cant hold **** to redline.

The WRX turbo when set to 16 or 17 may drop to 14 psi at redline (w/ boost control). Also I think that the WRXs stock turbo may be good for 12s (not been done yet), but the 2nd gens stock turbo I dont think can do that.......

The intake side of the WRX is much simpler and efficient than the DSM turbos are. Theres really no need for an intake or IC pipes on the WRX as the IC pipes are SHORT and the intakes out for the WRX have not really shown any dyno proven numbers.... for a DSM both those mods are very neccesary.

The factory BOV (made of plastic) on a 2nd gen would only hold 12psi or so.... one of the 1st mods you would have to do to them is replace this... where the WRX factory bov looks to be good for as much as 20psi or more.

Now the exhaust side on the WRX is more complicated... but not that bad. We have 3 cats on the WRX, I believe that DSMs have 2. The more cats you can get rid of, the more power you can free up! theoretically, anyway....

    Just food for thought....

ever seen a 2nd gen DSM factory intake?

horrible design....the BOV recirc hose intrudes into the main intake hose about 6 inches....pretty much closing half the intake hoses diameter off!! only purpose for it was to quiet the BOV noise.... he he he... like we mind right?

Anyway.... without the extra resistance of a hose blocking the way and simply a much smoother flow of air through the aluminum piping rathen than the rippled plasitc stuff... the turbo is has a much easier time pulling air through, thus building boost faster. Not to mention without the leaky plastic BOV bleeding off boost as well....and the K&N cone filter flows much better anyway....

it all adds up to one hell of a responsive turbo. Granted like I said before that sucker is small.... but my cousin has full boost by no more than 2500rpms.... in any gear, not just 4th or 5th...even 1st and 2nd.....
