M3 encounter (not a race, but surprising)...

I was taking a drive tonight after washing the car, heading to some of my favorite nearby twisties.

I ended up at a light with a new M3 in front of me. We made the left together, and headed towards a right turn that I usually take at pretty high speed. He of course pu$$ied out on the corner, but apparently didn't like how close I was to his back bumper, because right after the turn he punched it.

I'm pretty confident in saying that his foot was on the floor, as evidenced by the large puff of black oil smoke I saw exit his tailpipes (a little disturbing from a new M3, but anyway....). I'm pretty sure he was driving an auto, but that's a guess.

As soon as he punched it, I put my foot to the floor as well... 2nd gear, in the boost a little late, shifts up near redline.

What is amzing is that he only pulled a couple car lengths on me all the way up to 110mph or so. I though he would have walked my sorry $24,000 a$$, but apparently the extra $30k for the M3 doesn't buy you as much as I thought

I hung with him through some more corners, but we ended up with slow folks in front, so no more fun.

In all honesty, I love the new M3, and think it's a great car, but I'm really happy to see that my rex hung pretty close, or at least a whole lot closer than I was expecting.

Yeah but with that 30k you get a lot of stuff, like one of the sweetest 6-speed trannys ...

The new BMW M3 CSL is coming out either this year or next, and it's 360 hp...

Makes each shift in .08seconds... yes, let me repeat that...

it shifts gears in .08 seconds

*sighs* i'm in love with the M3 in and M5

Like I said, I love the M3 too... it's just a really beautiful car. I'm just happy I didn't get smoked by a whole football field

My only mods are 17" wheels (BBS RK's) and 225/45ZR Goodyear F1 rubber, and some other little bits and pieces, mostly cosmetic (Cobb short shifter, STi scoop, clear sidemarkers, Prodrive axle-back, mesh fog covers). The motor is stock.
