After searching around on UK Lotus web sites it appears as though the US Elise Series 3 will not use the K-series engine but is highly likely to come with a Lotus tuned (~200hp) version of the 1.8L VVTL-i engine thats in the Toyota Celica GTS, presumably mated to the 6-speed transmission that also comes in the GTS. Even allowing for the extra bulk thats going to be needed to satisfy US crash tests the car should be an absolute screamer.
