WRX vs RX-7 from a stop

Okay, so this seems like an exciteing topic right. So you may be dissapointed reading the story. Im on a long term IT contract for the weekends in Irvine and I get off work sunday and end up behind this RX-7 in the left hand turn lane. It was white, big big exhaust and an RX-7.com licences plate frame. Anyways the guy takes off when the light turns green and takes his left, so I see if I can keep up with him and I can pretty easy actually. I pull up next to him at the next light, its an asian guy but this is Irvine so no suprise. Anyways I look over at him tring to see if he wanted to go or something, but he kinda pulls that im not gonna look at you thing.

Anyways, light goes green and I take it easy right at first. Say 80% throttle and no launch but he stays right next to me and it sounds like his engine is working pretty hard, but I dunno the differnce for a rotory anyways. So I shift into 2nd at about 6500RPM's and put an easy two cars on him. Now I dont know a lot about RX-7's, maybe this was a lame version or he just wasnt tring. At the next light I went through on yellow and he stoped. I was pretty dissapointed. He was either not racing, didn't have a great car, or gives up really easy.

Hmmm...those things are pretty fast. My friend has a 3rd gen RX-7 with 405 hp to the wheels. He does 11s in the 1/4 mile. Those things are light and fast. Can't tell what that guy was doing that you were racing. Maybe he's not very modded.

Thanks.. its better then nothing.. just the weekends but its money after all.

Actually one of the guys who I work with was right behind us at the light. I was talking to him about it today and he said it deffinatly looked like the guy in the RX-7 was tring to keep up but gave up pretty quick. He said the guy looked like he got his feelings hurt.

    hmmm

are you sure it wasn't the second generation RX-7 as opposed to the third and last generation model?

I always thought that the last generation, the one with twin-turbos and aluminum body panels, were rediculously fast straight off the lot.

The third generation rx-7s, skyline GT-Rs and last generation Toyota Supras are like holy grails for the street tuner.
