Aren't the 6's a low 15's car? I remember seeing the tests, and not being all that impressed. I don't think they stand much of a chance against a WRX.

Mazda Europe has something to challenge the WRX...something like a 3.something V6, all wheel drive....I think I read it in CAR

I think its called the MPS and it will be coming soon. Based off the 6's body with 17" wheels, AWD, and turbo I thought.

my wife test drove the V6, Mazda 6 and it was pretty slow. she told me she was flooring it but the power was nothing special. my previous car, 1995 nissan maxima 195hp had more power that that thing. however, everything else about the car is great like the exterior, interior, handling, etc..

I know exactly how she felt driving that car. I used to own a 99' Cougar That car sucked a fat one. The only thing that car had was handling. It was amazingly stable. The motor in the 6 is a punched out cougar 2.5 duratec POS. I had 170 hp. This new 6 is much heavier and needed a stronger powerplant.

I live in Dearborn, I see all the test cars and stuff. Well They made that cougar in a 4 cylinder model. One of the VPís or ford drove one and got pissed... He said it was too SLOW. He ordered them to scrap 4,000 + cars...: But they made some deal and the ford execs were able to buy that car for 150 a month. So after buying my car and 4 months later, My neighborhood was flooded with cougars! THAT WAS THE LAST FORD I WILL EVER BUY!!!!!!

The sad thing is, That new 6 is a FORD... Give it 6-12 months and it will go to sh!t!!!

    Trust me I have experence

1980 FORD FAIRMONT - It ran when it wanted to.
    1983 F-250 HD /w 351 windsor - BLEW IT UP IN 6 months.
1989 Ford Ranger - Not too bad but rusted out!!
1999 Mecury Cougar - Fookin Joke everything broke in 2 years!
2001 Ford Ranger - Lease.. THANK GOD FOR LEASEING ( Turned it in 8 months early POS!!!)
2002 SUBARU WRX - Not a single PROBLEM, 6 Months AND STRONGER THAN EVER

Too funny, because I too had a deposit on the MazdaSpeed Protege! The stupid car was over 2 months late to market, and I got tired of waiting. Glad I did, cuz the WRX has so much tuning potential.

Also, we test drove the Mazda 6, which is a very nice car. Didn't like the seats at all, and the power was only so-so, especially compared to the rex.

I've heard they are talking of doing a MazdaSpeed 6 in the next year or 2. That should make for an interesting car, especially cuz it looks a lot better than the Impreza (in my eyes at least). But I'm definatly glad I have the WRX. Best bang for the buck at the time (Nov 02).

The Mazda MPS has a N/A V6 engine that produces 280 HP. Now that's a nice ride.

Me and my buddy both test drove the 6 too. We were impressed by the interior, features, and all that. But like everyone here, not impressed at all by the power...or lack of it seems. With 220 hp, it seemed like it should be a decently quick car. Unfortunately we only got to drive an automatic, and that might've been a big factor as we didn't really get to it's powerband. It makes 192 lb.-ft of torque at 5000 rpms, and 220 hp at 6300 rpms. And it's redline according to this article I'm reading....lol, is 6400 rpm. So right as you're making the peak power, it shifts.
Too bad I couldn't afford a WRX, but life goes on........hopefully......
