06wrx vs stage 2 sti

hey i was wondering what i needed to walk on stage 2 sti's. i was thinking cobb ap, TBE, front mount, vf22? the cheaper the better. thanks in advance..

If you're not willing to shell out the cash, you'll never make it that fast. Stage 2 WRX's are maybe as fast as a stock STi. So if you do the math, i'm not even sure this makes sense, you'd have to be stage 4. That's alot of work & it will not be cheap. Remember, you bought a Subaru, not a Honda. Don't skimp on the important stuff.

I think a vf39 with turboback and all the supporting mods could do it along with a good protune. I have seen some vf39'd 06's putting down lots of power, enough to be competitive against a stage 2 sti's. Plus you have one less gear to shift

But then again to be real that is a lot of power on the 06 tranny and with that much torque third gear could be bye bye

A protuned VF-39 '06 WRX will edge out a Stage 2 STi from a dig with all things being equal. It certainly won't be a walk.

This can be done pretty cheaply. Figure these numbers:

Cobb AccessPort $450 (used version 1)
Used VF-39 $400
Used STi TMIC $150
DownPipe $100-$400
CBE $250-$500 (Or stick to stock CBE for free)
ProTune ~$500

Just be mindful of the tranny and have some fun...

i dont' quite see how you can walk a stage 2 sti when you have teh exact same mod list as a stage 2 sti... i guess i'm just not seeing it unless you have a crazy tune compared to a sti with an off the shelf ap reflash, then maybe.

5 speed is geared better, he has an EWG, and is protuned not a OTS map. The protune usually nets around 15-25 hp and simular torque. The EWG is also a huge help.

It's no surprise that a protuned 06 can pull away from a stg 2 OTS map STI.

true, ots map suck ass.

i'm running opensource in my sti too and i love it! it would be interesting to compare some ots stage 2's to tuned stage 2's.
