I think the floor mat was stuck behind the gas pedal.
I know the WRX isn't super quick--but against a escort GT come on.
I use to beat Ford escort GT's with my 2002 civic si which i thought was slow. The Civic Si was spanked when racing 02-05 WRX. The 06-07 Wrx would even spank it more.

As for this post, the thing that bugs me is this is a race with a significant other. ( BF, GF, what ever) I could never go all out racing a loved one. It's just a trap. If you win, she's get's pissed. If you lose, she rubs it in your face for the next 123456 days. No way out of this really.
