meh. Power-2-weight still says the wrx should win. The escort would need more than 150hp to make the same ratio as the wrx, and the GT escors makes around 115~120. Driver error, I say.

And are we also forgetting the electronic limiter in the WRX kicking in at 130?

I do own both the cars, so it's all good they both have their own way of driving, and being driven. Some people like to think most races are about the driver skill, but it doesn't take skill to floor a gas pedal in an automatic, so there was no driver error here.
While it is easier to be consistant with an automatic, it doesn't mean that simply flooring the gas is the best way to go fast as quick as you can.

    <--races the 4eat regularly.

The escort is a fun platform for (mostly)stock, but I'm pretty sure you can put anyone else in either car and get a different result.
I hate my WRX's stock horn....

I am in total agreeance with what you said there. I was expecting her to get me, but you're right the technique wasn't there. (dropping the stick lower I assume)

Also two different drivers, and the results should vary slightly.

    Ill call it! BS!

Here are the stats for a 1991 model year ford escort gt 5speed manual.
    http://www.car-videos.net/performanc...p?id1=98&id2=0

here are the stats for an 02 WRX automatic.
    http://www.car-videos.net/performanc...?id1=269&id2=0

NOTE: These are not exactly the same model years, so there is a little variation between them, but come on...

I dunno what you want to prove, but dont come on here to a forum with plenty of other WRX owners and try to tell us some bullcrap.

P.S. I hope that original V4 comment was a joke.

Umm... he's been a member since 2002 and has 190+ posts. I think he's "been around the block" before.
But yes, a blow to the 4EAT owners pride this is. ( me being one of them)

As for this post, the thing that bugs me is this is a race with a significant other. ( BF, GF, what ever) I could never go all out racing a loved one. It's just a trap. If you win, she's get's pissed. If you lose, she rubs it in your face for the next 123456 days. No way out of this really.

And yes, +1 to Kanchou's post.

I will only offer that If the WRX were simply left in 3 the outcome would have been much different. The shift delay from leaving it in D coupled with the apparant lack of hitting the top of second and getting all third from way out of boost sealed the deal.

Not to mention the non existant stock top end on top of stock 4EAT drivetrain losses.

    4EAT Basic Information FAQ

Even a 4EAT can make good use of technique. The delay could also have been a result of not having driven aggressively prior to the aggressive throttle application. It does change mood quite apparently if you mash it and let off within a small period of time.

Its by no means a floor it in D anytime kind of sludgebox in my experience.

I figured somebody would be upset sooner or later, but that wasn't my intention in posting this. It was simply an outcome we both did not expect. For a better understanding of this "freak victory" were going out to the same location, to do it again. We will be armed with a video camera, and she is going to drop the stick out of D into 3 I suppose, for a guaranted downshift @ 60 mph. There will be no excuse next time, and there will be video proof of the results, that will speak for itself.

I wouldn't come to a forum which I rarely post in, and spit some b.s to anybody. I've been around WRX's long enough to know what they are capible of. I also would like to repeat myself, my EGT surprises everybody who has ever lined up with me from a stop, or a roll. The times posted in that 1991 GT stock specs page, are far off what my vehicle specs are currently. I run 0-60 in 7.1 seconds (watch the 0-60 vid i posted) and my 4'th gear goes between 110-113 so where they claim the theoretic top speed @ 119... it's an estimate, but an incorrect one at that. 112 is when I shift into 5th gear and watch it wind up from there. The vehicles speed governor and fuel cut aren't functioning properly, so I am not limited to anything other then redline in 5'th gear.

LoL, about girlfriend not letting me live it down if she wins. She is good like that, she is really interested in automobiles as well, so it's all in fun for us. We got the WRX because we wanted something faster and more fun to drive then the 03 Legacy we traded in for it, but after having it for a month or so, she is tired of the power and wants an STi also.
