    '07 TC 5spd vs RB20DET 240SX?

Okay this is not a Subaru race but my friend posted this in his scion forums, and hasnt gotten any replies and asked me to post on a more active forum. thanks for reading.

Okay, I know a guy who is all too cocky about himself and his car. He brags to me about how fast his car is and how he can take or close to taking stock STi's, but claims that racing them is a "waste of time and gas". So after bragging to me since September he finally lets me drive his car today. My first impressions was that I wasnt impressed at ALL! I floored it at first and shifted at 5rpm, 2nd I floored it and shifted at 5rpm and the car was still under 45mph?! I've been driving a manual car for 3 years now and I am pretty good at it, and when I tell him that his car is weak and gains no speed he blabs on by telling me I dont know how to shift!? This guy has had the car and license for a little over 2 months, and he tells me I dont know how to drive? I told him his car is weak and that I feel more power from my TC and my old 1985 Accord h-back. I compared his power to a my old suzuki sidekick 5spd.

So we agreed to race each other from a dead stop and a roll on the freeway. I dont know when but when he or I have time, we'll do this and I'll make sure there is a camera to film all of this. He expects to see my TC get the smoked the ish out've. I tell him that I will beat him, maybe not smoke but I'll win. We are also gonna try to fit in another type of race so that who ever wins 2/3 is the better driver and car. This is a race just to shut mouths.

    My car:

    07' TC 5spd STOCK

    His car:

    91' 240SX fast-back 5spd
    RB20DET skyline
    Front-Mount intercooler
    short ram intake
    BOV.
and the rest of his car is stock.

    What do yall think?

A RB20DET'D 240 is a low 14 sec car at close to 100mph traps, unless that car is a pile of crap the TC will get owned, especially from a roll.

the TC must tie itself to the 240sx to have any chance of keeping up.

*from a stop, the tc driver may get the jump since he proclaims to be the "better" driver, but the 240sx will start gaining as soon as boost is reached.

    *from or roll, not pretty.

This is assuming the car and engine are in any kind of decent shape.

I think the parents of the 240 owner are idiots. "Let's buy our 16 y.o. a car that's as old as he is. Then we'll get rid of the standard engine and have a JDM engine bolted in with a turbo and all the goodies. That'll be great for a beginning driver!" After all, new driver + high hp RWD can't be unsafe!

When that 240 was new, its 140hp was considered "plenty" and was still a questionable purchase for new drivers -- not that I could afford one back then. I settled for my 80 hp Corolla

And finally, to answer the original question, the 240 would have won with its stock engine. Now that it's got a 60+ hp boost it'll be no contest. Shifting a turbo car at 5k rpm means you barely got into the power. It revs to 7k+ for a reason.

+1 for JDM goodness. Your friend's butt dyno is seriously out of whack.

I'm no Nissan nut but, are you sure it's not a SR20 red top? (From a Silvia)

Skyline RB motor swaps are pretty rare. ( well to me at least)

As for the race.... I don't know.

TCs look nice but that is about it, otherwise it is just a camry with sport tuner looks.

The TC is going to get worked.

    shifting 5k in a turbo 240
The motor in question will rev to just above 7k rpm's stock and with engine management will rev upto 7,500.. so if he shifted at 5k rpms he was missing out on about 2,000rpm's + of boost.
If I raced my 13sec wrx and shifted at 5k rpms every gear I would probably run a 15sec + 1/4mile.

The TC is not a fast car at all, and he is in over his head.

Even s/c'd TC's are only good for mid 14's at best without small pulleys and tons of supporting mods. I would still put my money on the 240 over a sc'd TC. However, the s/c'er should would help keep the gap low.

First off the SR20DET motor isn't a skyline motor.

And as everyone has already said your friend doesn't know much about cars especially that car because it shifts higher then he did it at and that car with the SR20 smokes a stock and even most Turbo'd TCs.

End is that he will get totally smoke by the 240 especially if the guy is running more boost.

Who said anything about a SR20 being a Skyline motor?

And I'm pretty sure Seattle206 owns the Scion.....
