    New Mustang commercial (vs sti?)

Hey all. Just watching Monday night football and saw a ford commercial for a new mustang gt.

car pulls up to a red light, STI (or modded WRX) next to it and it goes on about the GT having 300 hp, calling the guy "pal" by commentator, noone wanting any of this, yadda yadda. and as the guy in the GT revs the engine, and the talking by the commentator continues, the guy in the WRX/STI starts to slink in his car as though he is really intimidated.

WTF. just kinda struck me as odd.

anyone else seen this one? i saw it the other day, but just saw it again a couple min. ago

it kinda made me laugh...wishing they would have let it play out.

i have a commercial to shoot...

nearby track, new GT vs new STI...stock vs stock. either drag or road course.

yes i realize the stang probably has better top end, but that commercial is kinda dumb...and sort of makes it seem like the guy in the stang would have been up for street racing, but the Subie guy was intimidated and backed down.

On the Z forum there was a thread where someone from Ford was asking for 350z's to be used in a Mustang commercial. Perhaps it was going to be the same commercial. it would have been more realistica at least.

It's really lame when car companys bash other cars in their commercials. It's like theres no reason to buy it other than the fact that its slightly better than the other guys.

    agreed.

marketing dept must be drawing blanks on how to make the commercials appealing with just using the car and some creativity so they use the whole muscle vs rice thing to try to fuel the emotion of the mustang buyer (or import hater)..whichever fuels the person to want that V8 vehicle.

i know i could search to find this answer, but i dont feel like it:

so how would the STI and GT stack up in a real drag race with equal drivers? maybe someone should make a commercial with their car pulling up to a GT on an open track day and just making it ugly.

i dont know why that commercial bugs me...and makes me laugh at the same time.

i get one now and then that revs at me, but being at stage 2 on an 2003 wrx ...well i dunno how i would fair against one if i ever did try. i know on the dragon i can take one easily, but not sure how the straight would work out.

what makes it funny is when an obvious 6 cylinder mustang or camaro revs.

Just goes to show Ford's insecurities.

Besides, if the GT owners want to go around thinking they can take STi's then that is fine with me... They will quite surprised however when they actually catch a light with one though.

    Numbers say:

Ford Mustang GT: 13.9 @ 104 quarter mile
Subaru Impreza WRX STi: 13.2 @ 104 quarter mile
Subaru Impreza WRX: 14.4 @ 94 quarter mile

So the GT trumps a stock Wrex, but against a stock STi? Thats laughable. Pretty sure a responsibly modded WRX would kill the GT on a quarter mile as well.

Damn domestics and making desperate ads for people to buy their rusty tin cans. Just more fuel for the muscleheads to go out there and ram their Steeda Mustangs into the back of Integras.

On the other hand, I got a call from a man in NJ today. We started out talking shop and business and once I told him about my up and coming Wrex, this guy starts going off about his 2003 SVT Cobra which he jacked to 720whp and about 608lb torque (I believe those are the right figures). He did a 10.27 quarter mile. He was real cool about the WRX and I got him into looking for an STi. Good stuff, we both bashed Eagle Talons

(Sorry for the minor hijack, just trying to say that some Mustang and muscleheads aren't arrogant)
