are you trying to get a faster 1/4 time? highway speeds? handling?
what do you mean what will take to "beat" the m3? beat it doing what?
you could probably beat it in all of those categories.... as long as there's 3" of snow or something

how does the famous interwebnet saying go?

    Get an SRT4! J/K

M3s are nothing to aspire to beat, my Cobra used to eat those up with ease, stock, they used to get pissed losing to a Mustang, lol. I would think that a WRX would need at least a stage 2.5 if not a full stage 4 setup to lay the smack down though.

Well despite the difference in HP, M3 is still faster than M5. And upcoming V8 powered M3 will be even faster.

What does it take to beat an M3? Race him in snow.

STi still slower than M3. Stage 1 STi will be very close and Stage 2 STi should beat it.

3 Steps to beating an M3:
1> roll up beside the M3
2> use your 'Nine' to shoot out front tire
    3> drive away

My friends Sentra Spec V with removed inerior (dash parts, seats, spare, etc) and some bolt ons took a 2004 M3 by 2 car lengths in about a 1/2 mile run from light to light. The M3 driver was some dumb kid with rich parents and he was pissed since the dudes g/f in the passenger seat couldnt stop laughing.

Tubro lag is the devil, however, I would imagine a Cobb S2 wrx with the right driver wouldnt have a problem. M3's are very heavy so the subaru's power to weight ratio should be an advantage.

All joking aside, here is the information you need to consider:

WRX STi vs. Evo8 vs. M3 SMG vs. RX-8 vs. 350Z

If you look at what happens at K13 the situation becomes very clear.
