yeah, does anyone know anything about the new 268hp camry?

It is using a 3.5L V6 that is accompanied by a VVTi which is a twin cam that has 4 valves per cylinder and makes 268hp @ 6,000 rpm's and 248ft/lbs @ 6,200 rpm's.
It also has a 6spd automatic with auto-shift mode. Personally I think it will end up being a great car. Some weight has been added, but a lot of horsepower has been added as well and this motor will produce a considerable amount more torque than what most people are accustomed to in a Toyota.

I dont think there are official times on the car yet, but in the automatic mod I would not be suprised to see in in the mid 14sec range @ 96/98mph. If they ever introduced a manual tranny (not sure, but probably not) it could be capable of low 14's @ 99 or so. Ever since Nissan introduced the 3.5 V6 into the maxima and Altima in 2002 there have been many of them hitting low 14's completely stock and running into 13's with bolt on's.

Very true. Most stock 2.0L WRXs trap 94-95mph in the 1/4 mile. The race would be much closer with a 2.5L WRX though. I've bogged many a launch at the track (sometimes with the tach dropping down to 1,500rpms) and I've still run 14.3-14.4 @ 97+mph.

Well, bogging a launch wont really hurt your trap speed.

no torque steer whatsoever, and my dad's pulled on my Stage 2 WRX from a 60mph roll on the highway. it'll rev all day long and make pleasing sounds. it's not a performance car by any means, though.

it's proof that acceleration is only part of the picture in a sports car. it should have some, but it shouldn't necessarily be sOoO fast. WRX > Camry every millisecond all year long.
