Oh, and I though the DSG in the GTI was faster than the manual one? From what I know, the DSG puts down the same WHP but shifts much faster.

shift times are listed a few posts up. i tried using chike's shift points. i don't know if i can get much faster, there is so much humidity where i am so they are horrible. its 80% humidity when i ran a 14.226 and i think it might stick around there. i'm keep trying to break 14 until i mod my car but i don't know if its feasible around here. i don't know how much of an effect conditions have on times.

the gti may be faster with dsg but it was like 1000 more than the manual and my roommate found it more boring. his car is fun to drive, so much torquier than mine low down. but mine has top end that his doesn't. but his is so much better interior, pros and cons to both.

Like Shawn mentioned, I listed my shift points previously (post #7). While these shift points worked for me, understand that my shifts were also extremely quick.

While the DSG GTI has super fast shifts, the fastest I've seen a mag test one was a 15.1@95mph. However, using a 6mt GTI Motortrend got a 14.7@94.7mph. While the DSG trans is a true 'manual', it is much heavier which is a trade off.

P.S. Shawn, keep working at it! I'm in VA which has high humidity as well - but the day I ran the 13.74 had a freakishly low 20% humidity! In 65% humidity I ran a 14.01@97 for comparison. Work on speeding up your shifts and kowing where those shift gates are with your eyes closed.

chike i work in va. northern va. where in va are you, i live in maryland. if you're close enough maybe sometime we can meet up at a track between us sometime.

yeah i'm gonna keep trying but i'm much more interested in getting into some circuit racing type stuff, i have no idea where around here there are some tracks like that.

edit: i just realized i can check where you are in your location thing over there <-----. so you're like 3 hours south of me. you said you drive 1.5 hours to get to the track, if you go north you're only like 1.5 hours south of me. let me know where you're racing.

    Shawn,

I live in central VA just outside of Charlottesville. I would be open to meeting up at the dragstrip sometime, but understand I won't be going back for quite a while as I'm getting very busy with autoX events...

P.S. One other thing to keep in mind is that they're no 1/4 mile dragstrips between our two locations. I go to dragstrips in Richmond, VA while the closest ones to you (MIR, Cecil and Capitol) will be over 3 hours away from me.

    Shawn,

My car isn't lowered. Only changes from showroom stock were made two weeks ago - I put 225/45/17 Ecsta 712's and I added a Blitz LM panel filter. I plan on doing some more 1/4 mile runs this Fall.

My car will essentially be 'stock' just not 'bone stock' or factory stock.

    Hey Maverick,

Wait until the fall, when the temperature gets in the 40's or 50's and go to Cecil County (they are open in November). I guarantee that you'll be in the 13's. That's how I got a 12.7 from my Evo with minimal mods.

Those are summer tires. They were pretty cheap and I got a good deal on them from a guy who was taking them off of his awd Audi TT - $120 for the set. They have just over 90% tread remaining. These tires were definitely bought for autoX action.

I'll be spending a pretty penny soon to get some super sticky Bridgestone RE-01R's. They cost $168 per tire from Tirerack, but are pretty much the closest thing you can get to an r-comp tire in a dual street/autoX role.

I've heard Cecil is the fastest track in MD. I think their fees are kinda pricey though...

I ran my 13.7 at a real sucky track in VA - Richmond Dragway. Everyone says VMP in Dinwiddie is much better.

yeah i don't know if i'll still be stock by then. i'll probably be either stage 1 or 2 by the end of summer. so i might just have 1 or 2 more times at the track stock.

In fall (Nov) or early spring (March), when temps are in the 40's, density altitude at cecil county can drop -1000 ft or more. It's like being in a mineshaft.

In my Evo, it was worth about 30 whp over summertime air. In my stang, it was worth over 50 rwhp.

Cecil mod is one of my favorite mods.
