    WRX vs turbo neon

So a turbod neon tryied to race me the other day. And no not an SRT i'm talkin pos, 97 neon era with the "hi" tv commercials.

We were driving down Beaver Ave in state college...i dunno if any of you have ever been to Penn State, but it is a 2 lane one way road runing parallel to campus...he drove up next to me and started hitting his BOV and trying to get me to go...i just rolled my eyes at him seeing as how it was a thursday night and there were drunk people EVERYwhere and it was the absolute worst place/time to try to race someone.

I am curious though...how fast would one of those be?? I'm a stg1 rex going to stg2 in about a week...would i have beaten him at the strip? Or would his turbo give him a chance...liek i said i know nothign about very early neons

Very doubtful. I've seen first hand how fast they can be. I'm Cobb Stage II right now and I have beaten quite a few stock SRT-4's. Then one night I ran into a regular neon with a "bolt on" turbo kit. I got destroyed! I mean, completely destroyed. It wasn't pretty at all. So don't think that they can't be fast.

pending on the setup it could be high 13s to low12s with out to much effort. before the srt4 there were 3500 turbo kits that would get you high to low 13s pending on what all you had done to the car. also now that your finding srts in the scrapyards guys are putting stock srt motors into first gen neons for around 1800-2k. so figure same srt power levels and mod potiential in a car thats 2400lbs compared to a srt4s 2900.

Stage 2 will get you running with SRT-4's. Any 5 speed 95-99 neon with a decent turbo setup with the stock motor will most likely beat you. If you find one with built motor and a turbo you better pray it's from a stop and doesn't go past 40-50mph.
