When I was 16 I was working a job and going to HS... no car.

When I was 18 I was working a job, finishing HS, and joined the Navy... no car.

When I was 21 I got out of the Navy and started College... no car.

I got my first car at age 22, (about a week after my birthday). It was an 89 Escort LX 5 door. It was a POS, but I loved it. Delivered pizza in it, got laid in it, got in an accident in it and gave it to my folks. Finished all but my last semester of school without a car, (till I bought a new 96 Mustang GT shortly before graduation)...

Of course, I guess these days you "have" to own a car... same as a cell phone... right?

    age 16: no car
-got a job and rode my bike to work

age 17: no car till second semester junior year when my parents got tired of lugging my sis and I to all our functions. 1995 Toyota Camry. I was still working and paying for gas and upkeep.

age 19-20: Won a truck from the local Nissan dealership while I was in basic training. The AF Academy wouldn't let me have it for 2 years till I became a junior.

age 21: sold truck to my dad (who had been driving it the whole time anyway). Took the Academy loan to pay the difference for an 04 wrx

Dec '05: WRX totaled in snowstorm. Slid sideways on an ice covered intersection into a parked semi trailer.

Jan '06: WRX TR purchased w/ insurance money.

when i was 18, my dad bought me a brand new Corolla. i ended up paying about $3000 of it, and all the gas, but that was it. it got me through college.

when i graduated college, i paid cash for my brand new '03 WRX, + i paid for gas and insurance. daddy was proud. it took me 3 years to save up for that car, and a lot of man-hours.

five months ago, i did a straight trade-in for a brand new Mazda 3 hatchback. i wanna save some real money, so instead of using the WRX as a down payment for something, i again paid cash for another car. it's an economy car, but at least i have no car payments.

Back on topic ... when I bought my WRX I wasn't allowed to test drive:

    1) S2000
    2) 350Z
    3) STI
    4) EVO
    5) S4
    6) 330i (or any BMW for that matter)
    and of all things ...
    7) Mini Cooper.

I'm 31 now (I was 29 then), I make double what most of these salesmen make and sometimes dress the part. But usually I go into car dealerships just to see how they treat me. Salespeople are idiots if they only help the well-dressed customers.
    WRX 2004 Cobb Stage II (91) w/Helix DP ... 13.8@96.

man, sounds like dealers aren't very good out there trying to convince people to buy. I know for me, the test drives were what finally made me go with the WRX. I got to test drive all the stuff on that list except the BMW (though I wasn't looking into getting one in the first place). I always remember the dealerships and usually the salesmen that let me drive, then send any of my friends their way when they're looking for a car. So far I've had three converts to Subaru, 2 LGTs and a WRX wagon

The STi test drive was particularly entertaining since I brought my parents along while they were out here. My poor mom loved the blue interior, but almost had a heart attack when the dealer and I were tossing them around. At least now they know what the big deal is.

I've never revvved at anybody either. I have had ricers rev at me though... what's the point of doing it on a 4 lane crowded road that has a stoplight every block?

Seriously. I've had ricers rev at me in some pretty heavy traffic. I mean come on what am I supposed to do fly over the traffic and racer a primered honda.
