mustang gt conv. vs 06 wrx tr

Well, just to preface this, I raced an 05 s4 4.2v8 from a stop the other day. I happen to be friends with the kid, well anyway, I destroyed him from a stop, he can't launch though. From a roll he pulled about a length to a length in a half from a third gear roll. Anyway, a girl friend of mine has an '06 mustang gt covertible (automatic), and she says she is going to smoke me. Well, I'm worried this is all too true, I know I can kill her on the backroads, but straight line performance. Would I get killed by her mustang, since its an auto and a convertible? Anyway, if i would get killed, would an AP stage I put me even with her?

-my only mod is my catback exhaust

I don't think stage 1 will help. It isn't a huge surge in power, it really just refines the ride. Just race her and then if you lose, use the old flattering excuse. "I really just wanted to get a good look at you from behind..."

I can't speak that specifically about the 05's, but my mom had a 95 5.0 convertible automatic and it was a dog, unless it was rolling. From a dig I would not hesitate to say you should be able to take her due to the extra weight and auto trans. from a roll, I dont know, should be close, they have good power. I am sure someone else can better anwser but thought I would try and give you some perspective. Either way, sounds like she doesn't know much because if I had an auto convertible I would not be talking smack about racing, she couldn't be farther from having a car that is good for racing.

Car and Driver had a GT convertible running 13.7, dunno if it was an auto trans or not, tho.

    ^^so i guess i have a decent shot, she doesn't know about gas+brake for an auto-launch.

I would bet that is manual, it has to have been. The convertible adds weight, but I am sure they have figured out how to reduce that, but an auto trans is an auto trans. I would be super impressed if that was an auto trans. they used.

I agree with mbs627, just race and you will have your answer. The GT simply has more power and torque and with a 5 speed automatic. Should be a good race.

The test was funny to cuz they got the soft top to move quicker than the coupe. Either way, line em up and go for it.

The 05+ GT Verts are only marginally heavier than the Coupes, (it was one of the things that Ford paid attention to), so the weight difference can be your ass verses hers, and the 5 speed auto is pretty good, (I know several guys who selected the auto specifically because they weekend drag). The stock suspension is a tad softer than the coupe, but that only helps on the launch.

Stock for stock, she is probably going to smoke you. Because it is an 06, you might be saved if she hasn't figured out how to drive that thing yet. But then, for less than $500 she can put a CAI and tune on the car and add around 25 horses or so, (and it stupidly easy to do, hell, *I* did it).

There isn't much to driving an auto is there? Shes just going to mash and go, and as i said the only thing i can think of for driving an auto is the brake+gas launch.

We are talking about from a stop yes? Then knowing how to launch that car is not just a matter of "mash and go" especially if she does know enough to run it up while standing on the brakes...

    nah..

my 06 stage 1 93 oct w. short ram and short shift. i pulled on an 05 MT one (i heard the thing downshift like a beast) and i ripped him even past 120..

i drove an 05 auto the day before b/c she wanted me to try it out.. i hit about 110, its quick but i think it has you if you only have catback. stage 1 you'll probably have the MT one, i had good shifts. oh and both were not convertibles so weight etc.

EDIT: i made a post that is more than a few sentences..
