I was just driving back home and a gsx with a catback exhaust from what i could tell and was keeping up side by side with me going about 50-60mph. I could tell he wanted to show off his car and what not, so i slowed down to about 40mph in third gear and then hit the gas. I was a little ahead of him before i hit the gas, but not even a car length. I had a 1.5 car lengths or so on him and I hit the brakes as i was coming up to a bit over 100 mph.
This was the first time doing anything like this in my wrx and it was pretty scary and fun. The guy still wanted to go again, but I saw two cops and decided not to go for it again.

ya pretty much... some of them are insainly quick. Its the poorman's supercar... they say you can probably get 1 hp for every 1 dollar you put into a DSM.Good you didn't encounter heavily modified DSM.

-at first i though it was a regular eclipse, then i saw a the gsx written on the back a bit afterwards
so you beat him and you were in 3rd gear at 40??????
I mean if you were in 2nd that would be another story
But 3rd gear you wouldnt stand a chance unless he grabbed 3rd also.

its a typo.. Im sure he means 2nd gear. 2nd gear at 40 miles per hour is about 4,000 rpm vs ~3,000 rpm in 3rd gear. Even a stock GSX would have pulled away from you in the proper gear if you were in 3rd. Hell, a stock civic could have too. Gearing is all important, especially in roll races.

+1 on the typo you woulda been dead if you took off in 3rd at 40 or the other guy doesnt know how to race....be careful when messing with 1and 2g eclipses cuz its gonna suck when you get embarassed by a guy who looks like he paid about 2000 dollars for his car and he put a bus length between you cant stress the fact that the eclipse has the same iron blocked 4g63 engine the evos have, swapped turbos and a tune hes gone.....they may break alot but they are no means a slow car and take to simple bolt ons like none other
