    considering a wrx

hey guys, Im looking at buying a new car, I currently have a 07 civic si that I've had countless problems with it from the transmission to suspension and everything in between. it only has 60k miles on it so I'm trading it in and I looked at a 2013 focus st and it was pretty nice but I've always wanted a subaru so i also test drove a 2014 wrx and I really liked it but the gas milage is what's holding me back on it, what does everyone average here city and highway? I usually do 70-80 on the freeway, should I hold out for a few months for a 2015 wrx? what's opinion on this?

    thanks

I have a relatively heavily modified car, so my mileage might differ from yours. I'm also in Mass, where we use winter mixes of fuel, and people drive very erratically, all of which hurt my mileage number.

Driving mostly on the highway (20 miles each way), with about 3 miles pre- and post-highway driving , I've seen/calculated 25-27 mpg if I drive it responsibly, and if I don't, it is much lower than that. My issue is I don't like to drive it THAT responsibly, so I see 22 mpg in what I consider mixed driving.

I would bet that the ST will get better gas-mileage - it's the nature of the FWD beast. If mileage is a real concern (and not just one thing of many to think about), then I don't see why I wouldn't wait for the 2015 WRX. Ford will probably still make the ST, and you could see/drive the new WRX in person, and see if it still has the same pull that the current one has for you.

Right, you don't usually buy a WRX for the fuel economy, there's better ones out there, the Ford is just one example. If the MpG's are on the top of requirements then the WRX is probably not your best bet. If you can wait for the new model and then re-evaluate it might look a bit better. The new one is supposed to be more economical. It will likely still be not as good as the front wheel drive Ford... (in that particular regard).
You can't have everything - where would you put it?

If fuel economy is a concern, keep in mind a wrx requires premium gasoline.

I average 23.7mpg combined and I'm a very spirited driver.
    Not so much anymore.
