My WRX vs 2012 Mustang Gt

What's up guys/gals! I've just recently finished upgrading the turbo(supporting mods as well) in my 06 WRX. It's been a long process but its finally done(financial reasons). While I've been busy modding my WRX, my co worker/friend decides to purchase are 2012 Mustang GT. Well now that my car is finished, he's convinced his new mustang is a lot faster and talks trash daily. His car has a cat back exhaust and sounds awesome. We eventually will find out who owns the fast car when we go to New England drag this summer. But for now I want to know what you people think the outcome would be? This is a link to my tune. BrenTuning 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX 18gxt 360whp/350wtq - YouTube. The car made 360whp with a Blouch 18gxt @18.5psi.

As long as you don't bog the launch....you should probably win. From what the Great Googler told me, the 5.0 is just over 400hp but, that's at the crank. Your 360hp is at the wheels That car weighs almost 3800 lbs, yours is about 3250.

And why wait for the drag strip, do a rolling 25-30mph start on a highway with no one around or, just find a nice deserted road real early or late in the day and get some...safely of course!

Tell him to put his horse on the track or shut his pie hole, nicely.

I have $5 on you, don't let me down

If he's all stock, and you don't completely screw up the launch, you should take him fine.

I, however, wholeheartedly approve of waiting until you hit the track to find out.

Doing a few pulls from a roll isn't the best idea with this guy for more than one reason. Not only does his car shine at higher speeds, He also would want to bring speeds up to 125+ knowing his car preforms best on topend. I would be lying if I said I never messed around on the highway, but I want their to be a clear finish line when I do finally line up with him. I've driven in his car many times and its definitely quick, it just delivers its power much differently than a turbocharged subaru does, witch is why I want to race from a stop besides a roll.

Agreed. I'd imagine even at higher speeds... you're putting out a good bit more power in a lighter car. Shouldn't be much of a contest...

A co-worker had an 06 WRX also putting down 360WHP and made 11.7 secs at the quarter mile. The new 5.0 does between 12.8 and 13.2 in stock form (according to Motor Trend and other folks) Please make sure to record a video when you go to that track. I am sure a lot of people around here will like to see it.

I really fail to see how you would lose to him providing you do everything right unless he's got a 50 shot of NOS hiding somewhere... even that might not be enough. Seriously though, he's running his mouth because he's scared to lose to a 4 cyl. It's funny... the mustang guys back when I was 16 didn't ever think they would lose... they STILL don't think they can lose lol.

Being a Mustang guy myself, I still think he's in for a surprise. The Mustang regardless of the year has a very loose suspension stock unless you're talking Boss 302 or GT500. The GT makes a ton of horse at the wheel but it lacks the suspension to put the power to the ground. The Mustang GT WHP baseline is around 350-360 and since she's got a fat A$$ to boot, it should be fine. This to me seems more like a drivers race though.

The weight it what will make the bigger difference... you talk about the boss, but there is a video of a WRX walking away from a boss from a roll, and this was the new boss, not the old one. I'll try to find it because I was rather surprised myself.

just an exhaust? you should take him since we have much lighter cars. i love the new mustang and owned one but they heavyyy. drivers race since exhaust does help the v8's, even the v6's exhaust work helps more than our cars. but with a good start you should stay ahead in the 1/4.
