I've never lived there yet I've sat at a standstill on the M25. I'd be more concerned with the bus schedule than what Clarkson thinks about anything in reality.

I wonder if not living in a snow-zone means we got the car for cheaper.

I think car pricing depends on which distributor is in your area. I know that there are discrepancies in prices even now in different regions. For example in Illinois the car is the lot cheaper than in the NE.

True. My car was purchased in Michigan.

Also, mine was purchased in 2003. It's likely the demand jumped after the initial offering.

So what you're saying is that my car should have been purchased for $hundreds under invoice?

I recall my dealer saying five bills below is OK but only for a wagon; then my wife said a sedan or we're gone and that was that, or something. Here, we see snow on TV sometimes.

I think he loved the GT until he had to own one, and the quickly changed his mind. It never fit the circumstances.

The Wrx demand went stupid here and Subaru played it smart by limiting supply, so the new ones are more expensive and there are fewer available. I agree with SD_GR, it makes it damn hard to buy another. Especially when the basic ingredients haven't changed since 2006. I don't want a 2014 with the same engine and trans I have for $30k.

When I bought mine in 2006, Santa Monica Subaru had over 30 WRX's in stock, and each of my local dealers had around 10. Mine sat on the lot for over 200 days before I bought. I was $25600 OTD with tax and license.

The STi was $31500 + fees.

Hell in 2009 I helped my buddy negotiate a 2010 hatch back for $25800 out the door.

Now my local dealers have 1 wrx in stock maybe, they want $32000 for it, and its gone in a few days. The rarely ever have an STI and they want $40k.

No thanks. For that money, I'll look used Porsche, GTI, GOLF R, Focus ST, Fiesta ST, or Fiat Abarth. Hell I could work a deal and get a new Dodge crew cab pickup and a Fiat Abarth for $45,000. Then I'd have 4 cars.

Sorry "same trans with a couple different gear part numbers that don't make it any better than the sum of its parts in 2006."

That's where I draw the line. I'm out. For $40K I could buy a nice econobox, a nice bike, a decent set of loudspeakers that I've always wanted for my house, and enough pizza to literally kill me. Great cars, but they're going to have a hard time getting my money at those rates next time round.
