I banged second once. It just wasn't as satisfying for some reason.

Yeah, me too. I felt the same way. Just didn't have quite the same feel as first.

We just returned our Mazdaspeed3 fleet loaner last week, and as an owner of an '11 WRX, I had mixed feelings about my week with the car.

Torque steer in the MS3 is ridiculous.. Dare I say even a little dangerous? Despite the LSD and torque reduction in the first three gears, the wheel just wanted to pull if I launched it aggressively. That, coupled with a clunky shifter (that constantly got jammed up going into 3rd) really killed it for me. On the flip side, the car is really well put together, and is WORLDS better than the WRX when it comes to the interior.

Nice looking car, well priced and well equipped, but it just wasn't for me.

A co-worker of mine has an '11 MS3 with a 6 speed and the turbo. He RAVES about the car and I have to admit that it looks pretty badass. He offered me the opportunity to test drive it but I haven't had the chance. After reading this post, I think I'm gonna take him up on the chance to test drive this ride. He also offered to run me in my WRX but mine's a bone stock 02 Wagon and I'd assume that since he's 9 years newer he should be faster. That being said, I have many year's experience in street racing and I'm not sure he's ever raced anyone. It might just come down to a driver's race anyway!

I'm brand new to the import tuner scene. I have to admit that I am more than impressed with the power and drive-ability of these cars. I really do enjoy the ride home every day. My wife even likes it and is lobbying for me to take her 02 4 Runner so she can have the WRX.

As far as what's faster....someone else is always faster. I learned that many years ago as a street racer. I must have built 3-4 different motor combinations for my 68 Firebird over the years in the attempt to "go faster". In it's previous condition, my Firebird (which only weighs 3400 lbs) had a nasty 455 with over 450 HP and almost 600 ft/lbs of torque. It was just NASTY. I beat everyone....but there's always someone faster. One night I ran a guy with a tricked out Hemi Mopar. I got him off the line because I was running 3:90 gears but he caught me about mid-run and at that very moment I decided to stop pissing my money away trying to go faster and decided to focus on being cooler.

I pulled the car off the road and it underwent a 10 year restoration. Now it's fast... but it's no street racer. But I'll tell you this it's so damn cool that it gets tons of attention and thumbs up everywhere I take it. Honestly that's more fun than racing anyway!

It's funny, I drove my WRX today after two weeks of driving other cars, and it felt a little slow.. While I complained about the launching issues and shifting in the MS3, the one thing I really liked about it was the 280 lb-ft of torque it had. Makes a huge difference around town and such.

Been hearing that the next MS3 will have a naturally aspirated 2.0 liter engine.

Considered an FR-S before the Rex, and the giant hole in the torque curve absolutely ruined it for me. Too bad, too, because it's sexy as hell and has a badass interior. But that lack of torque, and the laughable backseat, killed it for me.

Look up the Crawford BRZ/FRS. There's a video on YouTube. It will make you want one! It has massive potential. I don't want one INSTEAD of a Rex, I want one in addition to

Exactly the route I chose. Somehow having a WRX makes my BRZ better, and vice versa. They compliment each other nicely.
