If there's a decent driver behind the wheel, what cars can an '04 WRX beat? I go to the drag strip every now and then and see some Stock subaru's make examples of VW's and Honda's and other times ... Not so much. I want to take my '04 WRX (stock) To the strip someday, I just want to know what other cars that are similar to performance of the WRX I can beat, assuming that cars are stock. ThanksLike can a WRX beat the faster VW's or Civics?

It's hard to beat anyone in a quarter mile with a broken transmission.

A lot will depend upon how hard you're willing to beat on the car.
[prepares for backlash]
Take the expertly-launched AWD aspect out of the equation, and a stock WRX isn't much of a dragstrip car. (especially the '02-'05 2.0 liter cars)

Considering the surface of the earth rotates at approx. 1000mph, I don't think the WRX stands a chance.

all the horsepower
I recommend clutch dumping at 5.5K and power shifting the entire way down the track. Don't use the clutch it will slow you down and wear is minimal. Trust me.

Bunch of ****s xD Well I was just curious how a Subaru stacked to other 4 knockers. But since the earth apparently wants to flash it's horsepower at everyone, then ****, never mind....
OK guys, calm down. This is the WRX vs. World forum, after all, and the OP is asking an honest question. Plus, they are referring specifically to a safe track environment, not street racing, so props to them for that. Regardless of your feelings of the WRX as a drag car, I think all the sarcasm and flaming is undeserved.
To answer the OP's question, check out this list of 1/4-mile times from various magazines when the car was brand new. The chart I'm referring to is near the bottom of the page: 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX and STi spec page
Now, your car is not new, and I'm sure these magazines were beating the snot out of that clutch and transmission, so bear in mind that the AWD system really wasn't meant to handle the shock of a sudden power input (such as a clutch dump). Unlike FWD or RWD cars that would just break traction and spin the wheeels in this situation, the AWD system will try as hard as it can to maintain traction (which is its sole purpose in life, after all), and this in turn puts extreme stress on the system, often leading to quick failure, or dramatically shortened lifespan at a minimum.
As far as who you could beat? It's really up to the driver. I've gone to the drag strip before (in another car), and I beat muscle cars, but got spanked by Civics. There really wasn't much of a pattern other than driver skill. I'd suggest trying other forms of motorsport, (such as AutoX) that aren't as punishing on the drivetrain, yet just as much fun.
