    Im trying to decide between a 02-07 wrx/2.5i or an rx8. I was almost set on a subaru until one of my friends said I should look at the rx8. Ive always kind of wanted one, but engine failure is pretty common at random mileages. They look good, they're quick and they handle really good (from what i've heard). And then of course, theres the wrx. I've had 2 so far, so they're one of my favorite cars for sure. The main thing I dont like about them is understeer. I would like to take it to a track a couple times a year. For the most part, I just want a nice, fun, reliable dd. I realize this is a subaru forum and i'll probably get alot of bias answers, but i just wanted to see what other people thought about the 2 cars.

    I like understeer. I dislike Wankels. The choice for me would be simple.

    I'd look at any year STi for the track, and buy almost anything Japanese without a Wankel in it for a daily driver etc. Just me.

    I can only afford one car, and an sti isnt going to happen. Im not a fan of wankels either but of course i know nothing about them, but the car itself is nice.

    Do you have a vehicle with which to tow the Wankel?

    I'm not saying "buy a Subaru" but I am definitely saying "don't buy a Wankel." It's not even a Mazda thing; I'd not buy a Wankel made by anyone. {EDIT: Later in this thread, I reconsider and I'm now at the point where I would own an NSU Ro 80 or a Citroen GS with a Wankel (though the latter was probably stillborn, I'd own any GS anyway and the Ro 80 was remarkable}

    Do you have a family? How about a Miata if you need a sporty Mazda, or a Honda S2000 if you want something raw? Both are great on a track.

    If you're considering the RX-8... then get the 350z instead.

    Clamf!

    My sister owned an RX-8 before she snorted it up her nose, and loved the way it drove. I typically love RWD sports cars, but I'm not drawn to that one, for some reason.

    I had a 2004 RX8 until July when I got the WRX. WRX is by far my fav, but the RX8 had it's up sides too. RX8 had better ride, handling, interior, gearbox & stereo. WRX is more bare bones (even though I got the limited) which I prefer.

    I put over 100,000 trouble free miles on my RX8, but was always worried that something bad was going to happen. I did all the maint and kept the oil, trans and diff fluids fresh. BTW, The RX8 will burn oil as part of it's normal operation and that gets to be a pain in the butt.

    It's early so I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things..... but WRX is my choice which is why I bought it.Do the research and come to your own decision. YMMV

    My 93 understeers, especially in the wet and off throttle. Go figure. My 85 OTOH would pirouette, yes!
