I mean, the octane difference doesn't really matter that much to me either, it would just be nice to be able to put the cheapest gas in it possible but oh well. And finding a truly stock wrx is hard, especially when theres not many to pick from. And they maybe stock, but half the time they're converted back to stock. Im convinced my last wrx had a bigger turbo and modded ecu right before i bought it with a knocking engine. Im going to try to go that route again and look for a car that needs an engine...cheaper that way. The only thing about a wrx is, insurance is going to cost more than a 2.5i. I paid about 190/month on a 02 wrx, and im only paying 60/month now on my 04 ranger.

^^if you are looking to do an engine swap right away, why not look for a 2.5i shell and throw a built engine in there?

If I could find one, I would. The odds of finding a 2.5i shell seem pretty slim. All i've seen is complete cars and those aren't cheap (unless you've seen some). I see a wrx from time to time with a bad engine for $4-5k.

No. A Wankel Engine has no pistons; that is a specific type of rotary engine. In general rotary engine has pistons arranged in a circle. This was common practice on many of the 9-15 piston internal combustion engines on aircraft prior to the invention of the turboprop.

Being a techy kinda guy, I tend to try to use the right terms for those engines...but you're a little late to convince the RX-7/8 community to ditch the word rotary. They've been calling it that for as long as I can remember.

A picture I took personally of a Wankel in its natural state, somewhere on historic Route 66 in California. (California, not Cali; Cali is a city in Colombia not a state in the US, but that's another story for another rant). Taken with my mobile phone a few months back. When I see the devastation and harm to society that Wankels cause I sometimes feel compelled to document it, though it has taken its toll on me psychologically. At least I'm remaining calm and rational about all this... AAAHHHH!!!!

Notice the massive downforce generated by the opened bonnet and the door. I'm sure the first thoughts through the poor guy's mind had to do with how great Wankels are.

    No pistons, no glory.

Rotary engines have pistons as stated. Wankels do not.

One thing rotary engines do share with Wankels though is a total loss oil system -- though the rotary engines do this by design and the Wankels suffer it because they must...

Wankels have let the side down since their introduction.

I am beginning to suspect I may not like Wankels.

    I do like rotaries though.

Anyway I'm making an appointment with my health care provider, I'm being fitted with a nice white jacket with lots of buckles but curiously no open sleeves. Tootles everybody!

No matter how you slice it, the Wankel is a time bomb. Newer examples do have a longer fuse, but still a time bomb. They have the reputation for a reason. It's the same situation as the early US production WRX that had a reputation for a glass trans. Many of them broke but some people had 200k on them without an issue. No matter how much they argued, it was still a glass trans.

He isn't arguing, he's correct. A rotary is an airplane engine.

Do a little research. You'll be surprised. A Wankel has no pistons. A Rotary usually has flack marks all over it and is hanging in a museum somewhere.

I dated a girl who had a red one with the black dots on it so it looked like a lady bug. Eyelashes around the headlights and all. And it was a fishbowl so needless to say, we didn't take that car very often.
