Maybe I won't mention that I finally filed my taxes and got a fat return and I'm thinking it's time to drop a few grand and bring the 911 up into the 600 WHP/WTQ range. No, I'll probably just keep that to myself...
Looking forward to seeing this happen

    1) needed 4 doors & 5 seatbelts
    2) wanted hatchback
    3) needed something "fast"
    4) wanted reasonable fuel economy

It was my buddy (non-WRX owner) who finally talked me out of the Mazdaspeed3 and into the WRX. He argued they were great in the snow, and I agreed. I've had it for a year now, and I'm starting to get excited for the snow this winter.

That is about my same thought. The Only other car I have looked as "seriously" is the Mitsubishi Ralliart.

I have the best answer for this thread yet. "Because I wanted one." That's what it came down to. I wanted it, I could afford it, I bought it.

I would be careful about the Mitsubishi Lancers (any model). Yes, they are very potent and quick vehicles. But, according to my friend (whose sister owns a lancer) and the local Evo/WRX/STi Specialists... The reliability leaves much to be desired. My friend's sister's Evo is literaly falling apart (Trim pieces, belts, electronics etc...), and vehicle was only a one or two years old. The Specialists told me when i mentioned the Evo was to buy it and drive it to 60k miles, then get rid of it as the reliability apparently plummets after that (this is just heresay, I don't want an Evo anyway, so it didnt affect me).

anyways, I got a WRX for these reasons:
    -AWD
-4 Doors (or even 5 doors if i got a wagon)
-Turboed engine (that had some decent Oomph when I needed it up here in CO)
    -Manual Transmission
-Decent Fuel Economy (I usually average 25-27 MPG, and borderline average 30 mpg when I super baby it)
-Reliable Vehicle (By this time, I had driven mostly American Vehicles and was getting fed up with reliability issues)
-The '06 I now own.... Spoke to me... It said "BUY MEEEEEEE!" or maybe that was the voices in my head...
