    03 WRX vs Mini-cooper S

I got a chance to play with a mini-cooper s at a friends local airport today for a little. I think it was an s anyway, definately supercharged. Could have been turbo, but sounded more like a supercharger. Good driver too, but it didn't quite keep up with me on any of the runs, even from a roll. Sounded like he had a BOV, dunno about any other mods. My mods are aftermarket catless up and down pipes, a 3'' bosan twin-tip turbo back, and an EJ255 hybrid with the heads, turbo, & intercooler from the original 2.0, STi injectors.

Yeah, my friends father owns a local airport and opens it up to select people for playing in their cars : ) it makes for great fun. It's a pretty small runway, but it's more than long enough for a couple races, a little drifting, reverse-180's, etc.. But I don't really beat on mine, don't trust the tranny, driveshaft, and rear axle/diff to stand up to that. Maybe once I convert those parts to STi. I won't even launch off the line...But it doesn't really matter, the only thing yet that beat me was a 300zx twin turbo, and well...duh.

The 2 Cooper S's that I've driven might be classified as "peppy" in terms of power...but the nimbleness is just fantastic.

+1. I've never driven an S, but my coworker's Cooper is so much more balanced (in terms of handling) than any WRX I've ever driven (even 2009+ WRX/STi). It just doesn't compare... though I've heard poor reviews regarding the new Cooper 4-door...

Yeah, I like it. Keeps me from being tempted to race on the street. Can't get it every day, but every couple months or so I set something up

Mini coopers are slow in a straight line but they can take a corner damn fast.

I wonder how it'd be stock for stock... I have a stock 03 wagon and work with a guy who has a stock Cooper S... I've been secretly wondering...

I also have a friend with a stock BMW z4 3.0i that I will be racing next month. There's an airstrip here that they autoX on. We're going to drag race after the autoX. I can't wait to see who's quicker, but I hope his auto cross tires don't give him an unfair advantage since I'll be on regular street tires...

I wouldn't think that autocross tires would give an advantage on a 2WD car over an AWD in a drag race...though I could be wrong.
In any event you're going to want to get a good start. He's got a flatter torque curve and less driveline losses.

my wife has a "S". it's not a monster of power but goes around turns like a roller coaster. has the best steering wheel feedback I've ever experienced.
