04 WRX vs. 01 Boxster - who gonna win?

Yeah, like needing a new engine when the Change Engine Light, er, CEL, comes on. The original Boxster can't outrun many family sedans in a straight line so everybody starts on the "but they handle so well" crap. Of course they handle. It isn't hard to make a small car handle or brake well. Every single owner of an underpowered car likes to talk about how fast they are in a parking lot race.

I don't care how nimbly they're performing while they're behind me...

when my car was stage 2 accessecu, from a roll, I stayed in front of a regular boxter (none S). He never closed in, but i never pulled either. Its funny, but i actually ran 14.2 at 97mph, also, like the porsche mentioned in this thread. However, i'm not the greatest driver and i know the car has more in it. I'm pretty sure my car would have trapped at least 100mph with better driving and definitely into the 13s.

i drive a stock 2010 wrx hatch, and i pulled up next to some kid driving his dads boxter "S" at a stoplight. not the most recent model, prob mid 2000's model.

the kid started reving and honking and yelling. light turns green, i hammer it, and by the time i shift into third gear, i was at least an entire carlength of him.

i slowed down after that, but i did lower my window and smiled at the kid as he flew by.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Subaru WRX. I've had two of them. They're fun and fast for what they are. They can handle better with a few easy parts. But it's a souped up economy car - a good one, but that's what it is.

The Porsche is a far superior car. The way a car drives, handles, brakes and behaves in general is arguably more important than omgracefromadig. If a base Boxster is underpowered, then so is a Miata. And it's not easy to make a small car behave so well. It's in the engineering.

Compared to the 04 wrx, boxster wins everywhere but looks... seriously only a girl car that id never buy or consider buying. Thats stock vs stock tho. Tbe, sways+endlinks, cobb stage 2 will be better at everything or equal except brakeing. An 09 wrx is a better car in all areas IMO, but theres an 8 year difference between the said boxster and that wrx.

Boxsters of any vintage seem to me to be fine, well-balanced sports cars. Different demographic; I have to suspect that the average Boxster enthusiast is a bit less hung up on proving dominance on the street, and more into the subjective driving experience. I'd love to own one.. Early models are dirt cheap at this point.

oh christ guys take a joke! The average boxster driver around the DC metro area is a 45+ yo woman (with no knowledge of cars), but that doesn't mean that the car itself is not well-engineered. It's just said that most boxster and miata drivers are idiots who buy the car because "oooo a convertible"

And i bet when a porsche drives past a wrx they are like .. wtf is that giant ricer wing and scoop. The wrx, even though we think looka better, to some the bugeye or any wagon is a horribly ugly car. To us they are beautiful and amazing all around performance car. The porsche is gunna look 100x better than any wrx to a porsche enthuseist. Very biased way to say the wrx is better purely because of looks. Like telling a cobra guy that a T.A or camaro looks better than a cobra.

The Boxsters are now more accessible so I'd love it if a friend or relative bought one, they are a blast to drive.

Far slower cars than the Boxster are still better driver's cars than the Impreza.

Not an older boxter. They look so plain and blah. And no Porsche has gotten past me yet.
