I have about 6k left from insurance money on the sti. I had full coverage so i ot 19k back for it. Is 6k enough for a sti 6 speed and to have it installed?

yup! And then you can turn around and sell the old used tranny for about a grand. But you should also think about replacing the clutch and flywheel while you're in there.

It is the way I would go. Dont get headers, you can get ported ones. There are select few that actually do any good.. IMO

STi rear hubs/brakes

If it were me Id also go STi front brakes because then you dont have to run 2 different wheels/patterns

If it were me I wouldn't even do this... most STi transmissions have the same 3.9 final drive as the r160 in the 2002-2005 wrx. If you have the money to do brakes hubs and axles, do them all around... otherwise, just do the transmission and driveshaft... I'm trying to remember, but I believe the WRX auto driveshaft mates between an r160 and the sti tranny? correct me if I'm wrong.

I dont know, i like the idea of the tranny, but how expensive are the drivesahft, axles, and brakes? I just drive the car around town, its just a fun nice DD, just want more performance.

The front differential is an open differential in all WRXs and the rear diff is a limited slip.

The STi comes with a suretrac limited slip front differential though

Thats not what I ment.. Its stronger like the 6 speed, also more than likey he is going to find a JDM unit which is different anyway

if he's just wanting a 16g... then the r160 should be more than enough in my opinion.

Just trying to weigh out the cheapest options for our boy here.

True story. I've seen the whole ball of wax for even cheaper before. Wish I would've jumped on it. It's probably going to be MFactory gears for me.

What kind of stress can the MFactory gears handle, and how much do they run for? Id really like the sti 6 speed though, i like not worrying about something breaking.

they're only "rated" for 350... but then again PPGs are only rated for 400. There are people on nasioc running much higher numbers with no problemos.

With the Tomei EL headers and tgv deletes on my 06 STI I made about 15hp peak and almost 30 ft/lb peak over stock set-up, with the area under the curve moving up everywhere, AND peak tq. came on about 350 rpm sooner. I'm only just past stg. 2 in my sti, definitely not a worthless mod for me. BTW I was pro tuned before and after, the headers and tgv deletes being the only difference. at only 18 psi I am 300/340 at precision tuning in lakewood, NJ (stock sti around 230 hp). They were my favorite power mod, besides tuning. Loads of torque and much earlier in the power band.
