I was on my commute down from my girlfriends house in long beach this morning. I took the 73 toll road from the 405 south. After about 6 miles on the tollroad I hit very dense fog, but I keep my cruise control set at 80 and just turn on my fogs. After gaining on slow traffic in the left lanes, I sweep over two lanes to get past. I then get over in the second left lane and keep cruising. After a few mins i look over and notice a red fourth generation Camaro Super Sport keeping up with me on my left. I think nothing of it and keep driving. He then proceeds by dropping a gear and taking off. Still me being my mellow self I keep driving and not think about it. He then hits his brakes and slows down to my door and my speed. I look over and he starts feathering his throttle pulling up and pulling back. In the next few seconds we reached to the top of the hill where the toll is. The fog cleared up and the sun shined brightly on 4 lanes of deserted tollroad. I then droped down to 5th and take off from 80mph. I didn't expect what happened next...
85 - We're nose and nose.
90 - I start pulling slowly
100 - His right front fender is at my door.
110 - I keep slowly pulling on him
"Breath" I said to myself. (I noticed i was holding my breath, which will cause heart rate and blood pressure increase. Which can cause me to make a mistake.)
120 - His fenders at my left rear quarter panel.
130 - We pass the Fast trac toll and I let off with his nose at my rear bumper. He passes by me and lets off as well. I slowed back down to 85 and he followed. He pulled next to me again and I rolled down my window and gave him a thumbs up. He did the same then picked up a little speed, I got in behind him and followed till he got off a couple exits away. I was surprised, I always thought they had around 320-340 to the wheels and mounds of torque but i guess not.![]()

Was this an LT1 or an LS1 camaro? I would think both should have pulled on you depending on respective mods, of course
I was just on my lunch break and tried playing with an 02 camaro SS red light to red light, it was more funny than anything![]()

wow... you have that much to the wheels? ok then I believe you pulled on him
Here is the easiest way to tell the difference from an LT1 camaro and the LS1 camaro (notice the entire front end is different)
LT1: made from 93-97 (not sure if the SS model was available every year though)

LS1: made from 98-02

What I find unbelievable is that you kept your cruise control set at 80 mph in "very dense fog", and felt that turning on your fog lights would keep you safe.![]()

Never said i did it to keep me safe.
After running over and over what happened in my head. I still didn't believe it myself. So I called my dads buddy who owns two newer camaros. One is a 500 horse Z28, the other is a stock SS with a LS1 he uses as a daily driver. I asked him to do a pull with me and well he killed me by 3 car lengths by 125. After my ego and lil scooby were crushed, he told me a lot of people like to slap SS badges on base model camaros. (Which was another stab to my ego) So I went home, took a cold shower and cried myself to sleep.

$3-4 grand + LS1 F-body car = one scary, fast straight-line machine, IMHO...
06 GTO M6 Quicksilver, SLP 455 Bobcat, LS7 Clutch w/ SS line (RPM tune:373rwhp/373rwtq)
07 WRX TR M5 Garnet Red Pearl w/ Straight PPGs and Cusco front LSD (Agile tune:307whp/343wtq)
