    (Smug) Dodge Challenger SRT8!!! Smoked!

Last night while driving out with the gf I noticed a 09 Dodge Challenger SRT8. I pulled up along side and surprisingly a smug looking slightly older guy driving it with his sunglasses on (re living his youth I think) was driving. So I dropped it down into second and gave him the bait.....

He then proceeded to laugh and point at my car making stupid faces and turning to his friend and laughing! So obvioulsy I wasnt going to stand for that! After a few more blocks we stopped at a red light and he started revving his engine.....

As most of you know the WRX has an amazing launch from standing and as Im running the stage 1 Cobb for 93 octane map on my 09 it has a little more pep than usual.

So light goes green, I drop it from about 5k and hammer away, he is left there at the light and after a block Ive had him by 2 and a half car lenghs! He then comes up to the next light, gives me an embarressed look and turns off onto another road at the last minute!

    The moral of this story.......

    dont underestimate the WAGON!!! haha

how come any time a middle aged or old guy is driving a sports car, that they are either reliving their youth or are having a midlife crisis? Are all guys destined to drive Crown Vics when they get in their 50's? I dont know why I have a pet peeve about that, but I see people post it all the time.

I agree. I'm not going to be driving a boring car just because I'm middle aged. Plus, as long as it's not red it can't be considered a midlife crisis

Are you sure it is SRT8? sounded like it's a R/T or he didn't really run with you. I believe a stock SRT8 2008 1/4 mile is 13.11. Nice run tho!

It's because people have bills to pay and or are raising children so by the time they have enough money to get that sports car they wanted when they got married/had kids, they are middle age or older. Reason I know this is because my dad had many mucle cars when he was young but had to get rid of them when I was born. Now he is 56 and he just bought a vett. No kids in the house anymore and money in the bank. Hope this clears things up.

I'm "only" 35 but this makes me wonder if high school kids have posts about me on other forums that start like this:

"So I ran into this middle aged guy in a red Subaru sedan. He wanted to play but I knew his Fogey-mobile would be an easy kill."

BTW, the true car guys with Crown Vics have made them fast enough to still be fun cars.

it doesnt. People put a negative connotation on it, especially when people say they are having a midlife crisis. You just explained why they get them. We all know that. What confuses me is the attitude people have about it.

I guess if im perfectly honest I only put that comment in there because of the disrespectful looks and laughing i was getting from him.

There has been many a time where I have pulled up next to much nicer cars than my own with much older guys driving. They have given me the nod to say nice car and il respect them for that. I know that its no Ferrari but its about mutual respect as a driver. I pulled up next to a guy in a 500hp Cobra the other day and we had a bit of a chat just enjoying the fact we both love cars. What I cannot stand is when an older guy thinks he is better than me because he is driving a more expensive car. I will obviously try to have nice cars for the rest of my life but il always remember where I started. Perhaps not a mid life crisis then, just some guy who needed to be reminded not to be arrogant.

Oh and it was an SRT8, had all badges, larger wheels and decals. I know he ran it full on, perhaps he was struggling to put the power down? They only run about a 5.0 0-60mph anyway I believe.
