I love Cobras too, those things are just brutal and i love the way how they just hit 150mph without even trying hard.

Always fun to see these kinda threads... Mustangs are so varied, no one knows what you are talking about when you say you beat one; or lost to one; or even raced one. The car has been built since midway through the 1964 model year. It has undergone numerous changes in body and engine. Add the aftermarket modding that goes on with these cars and you have no CLUE what the hell it is you are racing...

So it is super easy to say you beat a Mustang... but that might just be a 1988 Escort with Mustang II badges.. sorry Speed...

I just need a Rex and Im all set. He is slowly becoming those arrogant muscle heads that I despise, but what can you do, otherthan just take him to import meets and show him videos of Supras beating the living hell out of Cobras once in a while. Then he just shuts up or just say " Wait till i get my KenneBell" but I know he is never going to save that much money to get a KB Supercharger bcus he only work 20hrs a day and doesn't save any money.

You will smoke the 09. Especially if stock. Stock 3v's dyno right around 260 which is what mine dyno's at. but the problem with the new ones isn't power. It is weight. I'm not sure why but my car with me and everything in it weighed in at 3320lbs. (I think I have a lightweight k-member) my buddies 01GT auto weighed in at 3480lbs. My other buddies 07GT...ready for it... 3730lbs. Thats 310lbs heavier than my car which makes a huge difference. You should easily smoke him.

A great American muscle machine.

But at nearly $50,000 (before dealer markups) and over 3900 lbs, not quite what I'm looking for.

I dunno about the twisties and that car..maybe on a race track but try harnessing 540hp in turns below 60mph. Majority of us call "backroads" roads that you rarely exceed 80 or 90 on the straights. I dunno the only other Mustang I would be completely happy with would be a terminator. Or a brand new GT because of the handling package it has...but it looks as if I'm going the C5 Corvette route myself.

Trust me, I;ve driven these things and seen them perform at autocross events, the only place a Rex would have a chance is in very low traction conditions like rain, snow, or gravel. They turn flat and stick like glue with the huge tires. Take a look at the rally america rwd class, several mustangs haul in that class they are fun to watch. Dont get me wrong, im a 310 awhp 09 wrx owner but if you see a shelby, wave him on!

I can't stand nearly all mustangs, but my first car was an 86 SVO and I absolutely loved it, wish I could find another one on the cheap.

does the gt500 still have a solid rear axel? if so it will always suck in the turns. the plus side to the rousch cars although over priced and under powered they start with a irs gt platform. making it a fair handling vehicle. and if i see any gt500 ill be sure to wave as i blow by them in my neon.

just looked up the new gt500 it has irs. bout time. should be a great contender. still over weight. how does it compare to the reg c6?

Yes it still has a solid rear axle. Although the new GT has a solid axle also but it pulls .90g on the skidpad and goes through the slalom at almost 70mph. It has better handling stats than a 350Z. Makes you wonder what they could do with an IRS.

A lot of drag racers prefer the solid axle because they're stronger and there's less wheel hop. 03-04 Cobra SVT's had IRS, but a lot of the owners swapped them out for solid axles. It all depends on what you want.
